[ As soon as the video feed begins, there is a face that is, perhaps, just a bit too close to the screen. ]

Ooh-! It's working!

[ And then she backs up, eyes brightened and a broad smile stretching from ear to ear. ]

Oh, my gosh! I can't believe that this is actually happening! Superpowers! An alternate universe!! Can you [ you being directed towards nobody in particular ] imagine the possibilities?

[ She spreads one of her arms out and upwards (quite dramatically), the motion causing her glasses to slide down the bridge of her nose. She pauses for a moment, and, afterwards, promptly straightens herself, her forefinger pushing her glasses right back up.

Maybe she got a little too excited for a second there. ]

Anyways, I should probably introduce myself! My friends call me Honey Lemon, and I look forward to spending some time here with everyone!

Yeah! There was a derby last month at the Swear-In-- well one of the... there were three Swear-In Ceremonies, and one was a derby.

You could win a goldfish and stuffed animals and stuff, too, it was great.

...you know. If you're into derbies.

I never have been, but that actually sounds really fun! And I didn't realize that so much went on at the ceremonies.

I think it depends on the month! At least that's what I'm hearing, but I'm not really sure since... new, but not brand new.

Who knows what it's gonna be like next time - could be a formal ball or or big... car show! I think I heard there was a car show one time.

None of those sound bad at a all! But a friend actually told me that they could be a little dangerous though..

...well, a fight did kind of break out in one of them last month...

I wasn't involved, though. I think one of them got bombed, that's not the most promising thing. But that was before my time.

Let's hope it stays safe this time around. The fun aspects sound much better!

Yeah, I think so too. But the good thing is, if there's bombing and you're surrounded by a bunch of people with powers, I guess that's safer than if you weren't.

Uhh... still better to just not have the bombs though.

Oh, right! If it were a chemical bomb, I could actually stop that now..

But like you said, it would be better to just not have them at all!

Huh? Oh, Porter powers, I guess? Chemical bomb stopping seems kind of specific, though.

I'm still trying to figure it out, but I think I can speed up and slow down chemical reactions. Technically, I couldn't completely stop it, but I could temporally keep it from going off!

Hey, that's not bad. Sounds pretty useful, actually.

I wonder if those powers are connected to a person's personality or something, though. Were you involved in chemicals before?

I'm a chemical engineering student! I've always loved chemistry, so it can't just be a coincidence, right?

Huh. Yeah, its almost like that thing understands us.

Or maybe I'm thinking about it too much. Hard to say!

It might. If everyone's new abilities correlate with their interests, then it would somehow have to.

Right! Unless... there's also the option of people's interests somehow reflecting some kind of latent ability in their genetic code.

[Uh. He blinks a few times because... where'd that come from? But okay sure let's go with it.]

If that's the case, then it wouldn't have to see inside our heads or anything, just bring out a person's potential.

[ She nods in understanding, her eyes widening a bit at the possibility. ]

I've heard theories on that before [ in her own world ], so it could be possible. I mean, I've heard that certain genes make make a person more creative or more adept to critical thinking than another, but I wonder how specific it can be.

Yeah, me too! From what I've seen here, it's not that far-fetched, either. Even on other worlds, ones where powers are common enough like mine, a lot of people's abilities are in line with their personalities or interests.

[honeyxlemon]

I think some interests might be too particular to be found in your genetic makeup, so maybe the tech that brought us here is more like a mindreader of sorts?

...yeah, you're probably right. But that's a little worrying - makes me wonder. I'm not sure I want some machine reading my mind.

Still, I have to admit that's a possibility. Maybe even more than that.

Maybe we'll eventually figure out how it all works.
