002 ( video )
( Hay kids. It's that one loser, looking considerably cleaner, better fed and more relaxed than her first post. Part of it's pretence and part of it is being better fed, but whatever.
Today, Tara's posture is a lazy slouch against the side of her sofa, bottle of beer in hand. )
Okay, so-- possibly a personal question. How many of you dudes are from worlds where everything's kinda gone to Hell? Apocalypse-style, y'know? Like, uh, I dunno. Everyone simultaneously woke up with Donald Trump hair, or meteors hit, or there's an undead shit-storm unfolding outside.
( A casual shrug. Seems like it might be less crazy a thing here than she thought. )
And, part two: what's the best thing about the world ending? 'Cause, I mean, I kinda miss living off ramen and canned stuff being a win instead of a basis for judgment.
( Hmm. Tara takes a swig of her beer. Maybe she is a bit less okay then she seems, but that's basically what her life is all about. )
Gotta find the bright side, right?

[ Hm. ]
Felt too much like grave-robbing?
no subject
No. Butterbeans are just gross.

[ He says it as cavalierly as he can manage, though it's a tense subject for him as well. Reggie tries his best to sound dismissive, though. ]
I've never been a fan either.

( There are certain things that trigger her temper, usually needing to come to the defence of others and be protective, but he is prodding at painful memories and it draws up a stronger response than she might normally have. Even when it's "just" a warning. )

Hey, look, I'm just taking the practical perspective here -- didn't mean to touch a nerve. It's all in the past anyway, right?
"tara is a mostly calm person," I said to someone earlier today :|
You think that can just be dismissed as the past, or-- I dunno. ( What happened at the prison was her fault, and even if the others have forgiven her for being involved, that's not something she can ever forgive herself for. Not what happened to all those people. )
If you just say it's in the past, that just means it could happen again.
SORRY TARA. IT'S ALL HE'S GOOD FOR... MAKING PEOPLE WANT TO PUNCH HIM.
[ He pauses, saying nothing for a couple of moments before he manages to shrug. ]
There's always gonna be someone that takes it to an extreme. Doesn't mean I'm not right on principle. People in a situation like that aren't going to be the same -- they aren't gonna think the way people in society do. Not when death's too... [ What's a good word... ] Normalized.
I would be impressed if she actually punched him tbh, usually she is the one breaking up fights.
Survival of the fittest'll only get you so far. You need people. If you try to be the fittest and other people don't matter to you, you're gonna be alone. When you're alone, you're dead.
( The fact that he said things that make sense to her just makes her madder, right now. )
he will just have to count on that
It's so complicated. While a normal person would, at this point, decide to empathize, Reggie knows that telling anyone what he's done will only make everything worse. So: ]
If it's inevitable anyway, what good are other people really going to do for you? Just gonna make it that much harder when they're gone, ultimately.
what has he done
That's not who she is or what she does. Right now it doesn't matter. All that matters is Meaghan's bloodied body, her sister torn apart by monsters, and Alisha with a bullet in her head. What matters is Bob and Hershel and all the people at the prison.
Her voice is cold, harsh and brittle. )
That's why you're gonna die alone. Go fuck yourself.
( And she hangs up.
That... could have gone... worse... )
voice, private, hi :')
Sorry. Hello. I'm Kitty. I don't think this was really the best time, necessarily, for this particular conversation, perhaps.
voice, private, HAHA HELLO
voice, private forever
No. You didn't. I promise you I'm not saying that. It's just that Tara's got a really rough time of it - which you have, too, of course; that's really clear from what you were saying. But right now, she's awfully sad right now and really quite drunk as well. And when people are a bit drunk and sad, the kinder thing to do is push the conversation away from really awful topics.
Look - she's really quite kind. What she said right there, she really didn't mean, and she'll regret it when she's sober. And I hope that at a later point, the two of you can perhaps come to some sort of accord.
voice, private forever
Then carefully but with that telltale abrasive sort of defensiveness, he goes on: ]
Well, first of all, my life is nothing like hers, so I dunno what gave you that impression. If I lived through something like that maybe I'd be more upset about it. [ Which leads us to-- ] Second of all, I'm not gonna lie to someone just because she's drunk and sad 'cuz I'm not a kind person. I don't do that. I'm not all that surprised she got mad.
no subject
Maybe. But I'm sure that the two of you don't want to dislike one another. Do you?
no subject
[ There's a sound from his end that sounds like fabric moving, probably a shrug. ]
You guys friends or something?
no subject
[ That's said firmly, with no self-consciousness at all. A momentary pause, then - ]
Sorry, if I can ask - what was life like for you at home?
no subject
[ He pauses, a much longer silence than hers. ]
Does it even matter?
no subject
It does.

I lived a normal teenage life -- high school, Halloween parties, family, friends, regular normal non-apocalyptic reality. More than most people around here can boast, I know.
no subject
This place must be weird to adjust to, then.
no subject
Um. Yeah. Guess so. Kind of sucks but there's nothing we can really do about it, y'know? Just making the best of a bad situation.
no subject
Yeah. But this seems like it must be a lot worse. I mean - most people, at least, are going from bad to bad. You're going from pretty nice to bad.

[ He manages -- somehow -- not to sound totally sarcastic. ]
