[Glitch figures enough time has past for him to make something of a more network, public post. Sure, he's responded to people, but, that's different...somehow.

He has a serious question on his mind though, one that needs answering. The video's on and he's sitting at a desk with a pad of paper and a pen in his hand.]

Okay, so, I wanted to ask stuff about birthdays. First off, yes, I'm being serious I know nothing about them other than cake and presents are involved.

Second is, what do you actually DO for birthdays? I mean, it can't be all throwing presents at people's faces and stuffing cake in their mouths is it? That'd be way too simple.

Anyways, answers would be appreciated. Also I'm not an idiot so don't try any joke answers to try and trick me into doing something moronic. [and he grumbles the last part:] Not like some people making bets on races and stuff and then get all uppity when you say the bets off.

A lot of people celebrate birthdays because they're the marker that you've survived another year. But some people don't think it's all that much of a big deal.

But yeah, it's just an excuse to have a celebration. You can go as far with it as you want.

Well, I'm sure it's not as FAR as I want. Think people would have a problem if I was drinking booze even if the laws are stupid.

Depends on the person whose birthday you're celebrating. Mostly it's an excuse to take a day off and spend time with people you care about.

Birthdays are about having fun and celebrating your life and they are the best. You play games and eat food and hang out with your friends and family!

And are sixteenth birthdays even more special than other ones or is that more of a world by world thing?

I believe the tradition varies by culture. I have heard, in some, it's customary for the child to bestow gifts upon the parents.

What you end up doing on your birthday is also heavily dependent on who you associate with. Some people, for example, think getting mugged at gunpoint is hilarious.

Charlie and I had a party together this year since our birthdays are close, but when I was younger, my mom always tried to take that day off or come home early for me. She was always working, so she tried to make that time for me at least.

I don't have anything I particularly do though. I didn't have a reason to since I didn't have anybody who cared.

My best friend insisted that I have one this year, but I didn't really care to.

I would have just been as happy to hang out with her and just do random stuff.

[Of course, this was also partly do to the fact that his birthday and Father's Day were the same year - and there's a lot of feelings attached to that.]

You've got it pretty much right already. People give you gifts to demonstrate that they like you. Cakes and desserts are a sort of "treat," but that's only really if you don't have that sort of stuff normally.

Holding parties of some sort seems to be what most do. [ At least most people here. ] Cake and other food items do appear to be a large part of it though. Alcohol for adults.

But yeah, a lot of people throw parties for their birthday. Or people have one for them. There's presents and cards, usually cake.

Some people just do presents though.
