There are a great many heroic types among the imPort population, and this is probably a rather tired question, but indulge my curiosity if you would.

What is it the elevates a person from simply well-intentioned, to someone worthy of such a distinguished title?

Deeds? Bravery? Strength? Capability? Righteousness? Nobility? All of the above, or some combination thereof?

Or is it simply that there's one person in the world that believes it?

Admirable, but I'm certain he thinks more of you than that. My friend here gets on my nerves without fail at least half a dozen times a day, and yes, he does cause me endless amounts of trouble. But even so, I would not wish to be here alone. Mr. Mondragon seems like a very genuine sort that would feel similarly.

[Out of the two of them, Joaquin has always been the more independent one. Sometimes it's easy for Manolo to believe that he needs Joaquin more than the other way around, and he's still not entirely convinced that isn't the case. But if he can help ease the loneliness and isolation that comes from being trapped in a strange world, even if it's just a little bit, then Manolo wants to do that for him. That, at least, is a sentiment they both share about the other, he's certain of it.]

Yes, even in 2013 before the world was distracted by much larger problems, it had gained a considerable amount of traction, and was only a matter of time before those laws were overwritten. By 2025, there were snide remarks and idle debates now and then of course, but certainly no pitchforks.

this is really the first time
ive left my hometown
so i dont have much to compare it to
but its been a good experience so far

there are many things i miss
about san angel
but the old ways of thinking
are not among them

I'm glad you and Mr. Mondragon have the opportunity to experience it for awhile, although I'm sure you'd rather be home.

returning to san angel is not a priority for Joaquin
at least not right now

as for me
there is no going home

so im trying my best to
live life to the fullest
and treat each day
