[The video opens on a patch of blue sky, with some birds flying by. The camera turns and there's a surprisingly green girl giving a smile and a wave. And apparently holding the comm with no hands. She floats (??) peacefully for a bit, wind catching her cape before looking at the camera again.]

Hey, everyone! I'm Miss Martian. But you can call me M'gann. Just thought I'd introduce myself. A-and even though I am actually from Mars, I promise I'm not here to invade or anything! I mean, an invasion of just one person isn't a very good invasion. And I'd probably go all undercover so you wouldn't even notice... It'd be pretty easy actually.

[She actually appears to be considering the logistics of an alien invasion before remembering herself.]

Anyways! I'm really excited to meet everyone and I hope we can be friends!

...okay, hold up, this isn't adding up. I only joined the team after we had to deal with the whole other-universe invasion thing.

...What other-universe invasion? I just meant being here instead of being back home.

Okay, um... basically how it goes is that there are tons of different versions of the same people on, like, parallel earths -- parallel universes. And people from these parallel universes can be brought here at the same time.

This conversation we're having right now means that you know a different version of me, and I know a different version of you.

Surprise?

...Right. I guess that makes sense. Definitely not weirder than anything else we've seen.

[She takes a moment to digest this before giving Jaime a rueful smile.]

I did think you were being nicer than usual.

I hope the other me isn't just flat-out mean.

But don't worry; the version of you that I know is really nice. [Also... not on the team anymore, but whatever.] I guess this is where I should be saying it's nice to meet you again, though! Even if it's kind of the second time for both of us. Parallel universes are weird.

He's just... kind of grumpy. I think he had a lot going on. He's a lot better now, though! [Now that the Scarab isn't evil any more. Friendship with your alien parasite is very important.]

I'm glad other-me is nice. On television, whenever there are alternate universe versions of the characters, they're evil. And have mustaches for some reason. [Someone should probably stop M'gann from watching so much cheesy sci-fi.]

And it's... nice to meet you, too. Again. Sorry I'm not your M'gann.

Sorry I'm not your Beetle, too! It'll work out. Most of my best friends are from different universes. I promise that we don't all have evil moustaches, but I'm betting some version of me has a wicked beard.

...wicked as in cool, not as in evil, but I guess it could be both. You never know.

[M'gann takes a moment to imagine Jaime with a beard... except it's over the suit. She shakes it off quickly.]

So this whole parallel universe thing... is just how things are here? Like, could I meet an Uncle J'onn that doesn't know me?

[well i mean soon she's going to know how far his desire for a beard runs]

Yeah, exactly!

[Who's Uncle J'onn?]

And he could be from any time, too. Technically speaking, my mom as a teenager could probably be ported in. Not that I'd want that to happen; it'd be super weird.

So time travel, parallel universes, alternate history... Anything else I should know?

Probably a lot! But maybe it's best to take it slow on your first day. Let me just say, though, that there's a lot of people from universes like ours, so you're gonna be real busy saying hi to everyone for a little while.

Will they know me or the other-me?

Um... bit of both, if I had to guess. It's harder when I don't know which world you are from. But even if they know a different version of you, I wouldn't worry too much; the people who know a different version of me have been good to me.

[He can't help but think of Dick, all grown up, and saying that he missed this version of him. Yeah, it's not a competition, but... it had felt good.]

Buuuut I can help break it down for you. Question one: does your Green Arrow have a beard?

It's kind of like knowing two different people with the same name. Might take awhile for me to get used to it.

[At least this Jaime is a lot different from the one back home. She's not sure how it would be if they were same-but-not-the-same.]

And of course! Green Arrow's beard is like, part of his brand.

Okay, so you're from a sane universe. Buuuut that crosses one of our representative universes off the list.

[He hums thoughtfully.]

Arrrre you from a team without a name? You guys just call yourselves The Team?

--There's a universe where Green Arrow doesn't have a beard? Scary.

[Kind of depressing to think about, actually. M'gann nods at Jaime's question.]

How'd you guess? It's probably not that common...

Because then some of my best friends come from your universe! More of your Team used to be around - [Impulse, Beast Boy, Artemis, Superboy, M'gann herself twice over...] - but these days I think it's just KF and Robin.

So at least you'll have a couple friends to come and greet you.

They might be from different parts of the timeline though, right? Because of the time travel thing.

[Could be awkward, depending on when they're from.]

Still, it's nice that I'm not alone. Even you're already kind of like a friend.

Yeah! I mean, we'll get there. You'll have your team to help you out, but if you ever need anything, you can give me a call.

[Oh, and about the whole timeline thing...?]

You got the originals here, by the way. The original KF, and the original Robin, I mean. That helps narrow it down at least a little.

Is there a Blue Beetle signal? Or are you more a text kind of guy?

[Wait, did he just say...]

What do you mean, original KF? That's... that can't be right.

[He'll answer her original question later (he would love a Blue Beetle signal), but he thinks he can read the right answer out of the expression on her face. Ouch.]

When I said people can be brought from any time, I mean any time, [he says, with enough gentleness in his face and in his tone to convey what he really means by that.] No matter what happens to them.

O-oh. I don't-- I guess I hadn't realized.

[It doesn't feel real. She doesn't think Jaime would lie to her about something like this but there's no way... The fact that there's a Wally here who's alive and well and will still inevitably die too early is overwhelming.

M'gann abruptly remembers she's still talking to Jaime and tries to smooth the expression of grief off her face. It's probably not entirely successful.]

Is he okay? Does he know?

[Is he okay? Well, hell. That's a loaded question. What he does know is that he doesn't know whether he wishes M'gann was from the future, or from the past. Wally doesn't deserve dealing with someone's grief over his own death - he's got enough on his plate - but having to break the news to another teammates might be even worse.

Maybe it would be better for him if M'gann wasn't here at all, but... wouldn't he want to see his friends?

God, it's a mess.]

He knows. Bart, um... Bart was here for a while. He told me about what happened, and I told him that he couldn't keep it a secret from Wally forever.

[If he sounds a little defeated about that, well, that's because he is; he's not convinced he did the right thing there.]

So now he's known for months now. And, I mean, he's okay as anyone could be, knowing about that.

Poor Bart. That must have been tough on him.

[And poor Wally. M'gann can't imagine being on either side of this: being the one who had to tell him, or discovering you were going to die.]

Wally, he... he's a hero. He was always a hero. And we all would have made the same choice. But I guess I'm just selfish. I don't know if it was worth it.

If saving the world isn't worth it, then what is?
