[The video opens on a patch of blue sky, with some birds flying by. The camera turns and there's a surprisingly green girl giving a smile and a wave. And apparently holding the comm with no hands. She floats (??) peacefully for a bit, wind catching her cape before looking at the camera again.]

Hey, everyone! I'm Miss Martian. But you can call me M'gann. Just thought I'd introduce myself. A-and even though I am actually from Mars, I promise I'm not here to invade or anything! I mean, an invasion of just one person isn't a very good invasion. And I'd probably go all undercover so you wouldn't even notice... It'd be pretty easy actually.

[She actually appears to be considering the logistics of an alien invasion before remembering herself.]

Anyways! I'm really excited to meet everyone and I hope we can be friends!

I can certainly understand the impulse to blend in, to not be noticed for what we are. [ She gazes to the side, distantly, her smile slowly waning. ] But personally, I find it more difficult to hide, knowing I'm the only one of my kind left. I'd rather face this world as myself, even at the risk of a comfortable life.

But, that is a choice that should be left to us individually.

...You're right. Just because I can hide, doesn't mean I should. Especially when everyone has been so welcoming.

I'm sorry about um. Everything. [She gestures in a way that could include "space racism," or "the extinction of your entire species."]

[ Kanaya shrugs. ] That's life.

[ Or the exact opposite of the thing she just said. the sad thing is, she wouldn't be as bothered over the extinction if she wasn't the only one left in this universe. There's being a dead end, and being alone. Both are very different. ]

I've been living through it for years, so it's more the past than the future, at this point. Better to keep moving forward, even if it must be on this world.

At least here you aren't alone. Lots of other displaced "aliens."

[Even though they won't have the weight of being the last of their kind on their shoulders.]

Anyways! Like you said, it's better to keep moving forward. No matter what.

[ She can hear those quotation marks, and she laughs with them. She can't be totally sure if M'gann's just mirroring how she used them earlier, or maybe has a similar disdain for the word, but she hopes it's the latter. ]

Well, our only other options are dwelling on it, or giving up. That doesn't seem like much of a choice, does it?

In the meantime, you have a whole new world to acclimate to! What do you think your first step will be?

Well! It looks like some of my teammates are here. But from different times? So we're going to have to figure that out.

[Figure out how to look a dead teammate in the eye, for one thing.]

[ She lets out a laugh. ]

Oh, coordination is always fun, when you come from the same source world. Determining who knows the most, and what would be prudent to disclose. What wouldn't be.

[ Who not to tell that they're dead. ]

There's also apparently an alternate version of my world. Some people know a different version of me. So it's extra confusing.

[Not to mention how the Bats keep swapping bird codenames.]

[ How do bats keep becoming birds?? It's a total evolutionary mystery, she isn't sure if she's missing something about Earth ecology, or just superhero themes. ]

And I see someone mentioned a previous you who was here before. That's just too much to put on a new arrival, this is why I've always thought it's incredibly gauche to mention on the first day.

I understand perfectly what you mean, even if there are plenty of things here I never would have imagined. Still, it's nice to be prepared.
