incendere: (This is tough)

Date 1 (Video)

(At first, there's nothing except sound: ambient city noises that are, oddly, muffled by someone loudly fiddling with the communicator.)

If this is someone's idea of a joke, then it's poorly crafted... (Some more fiddling. After a few minutes of increasingly frustrated button smashing:) I don't have time for these games! (Then, with a loud smack to the device and some more harsh fussing, the video comes on, revealing one Colonel Roy Mustang! He's looking down at the video with a raised eyebrow. Finally satisfied, he sighs.)

Well, this place certainly has an interesting way of asking for help. While I can't say I enjoy the situation, I suppose I might as well introduce myself. The name is Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist.

(He pauses here, his gaze drifting to his left in thought. If there's a concerned look on his face, it only lasts for a flicker of a moment before he looks back at the communicator.)

I've heard an interesting story since I've arrived here. Apparently, a few women have recently disappeared. Elizabeth and her sisters, Kate and Jaqueline, were out with their friends, Brenda and Felicity, when they suddenly felt ill. According to eyewitnesses, they all seemed to black out at the same time, but when the authorities arrived, they were nowhere to be found. Despite the crowd that had gathered, no one seems to know how it happened. Rumors have spread amongst some of the people in the neighborhood, saying that it was the work of some magician, or even the wrath of God. While I can't say I agree with such statements, it certainly poses an interesting question: if people were around to see the incident, but no one can identify how, why, or where they disappeared to, then what exactly happened?

That being said, people have a tendency of over exaggerating details. If anything, I'm sure the women in question are simply on a vacation somewhere. Though, if anyone hears any more about them, I'd appreciate if you informed me. I'd hate to confuse the facts too much.

[ Also, pretend that said "captain" and not "lieutenant" before, long story, #canon illogique problems etc. ]

It is so, yes, I don't exaggerate when I say perhaps even the finest, of course there is merit to all the military branches because after all they do all serve their own unique purposes but I do have to speak to what I know and I'll be very pleased to tell you all about it in depth another time, yes, it's our military here in America! [ Breathe. Okay. He's good. ] That's fantastic! You must feel right at home then already, there might be some semantic differences between heroes and soldiers but effectively that's what we're all out to do, right, be heroes?! Just like I'm sure someone will track down your missing persons if in fact they are missing, it's our duty to stay vigilant at all times!

[ He doesn't want to be disappointing!! He's wracking his brain but he hasn't really had an occasion to need flowers, not even for Valentine's Day. ]

I-I'll research it for you! Where are your flowers going? For what occasion? It might make all the difference!

[ Wonderful. o7 You are a gentlemen and a scholar etc.

He takes a breath in preparation. Monologue-challenge subconsciously accepted. Or something.

Yes, quite, we ought to really discuss our respective services more in-depth where we can properly sit down and shake hands, none of this remote sort of to-do, it's too impersonal for my liking but there is always something to be said for convenience and wouldn't you know it the normal telephone is nearly obsolete these days, but I have been, yes! Well, not here, no, but I've lived in America all my life I'm very proud to say, here I've only been about a month and a half but it's fairly similar, almost comfortably so but it's not nearly, though beggars can't be choosers, can they? I enlisted with the hopes of being a hero, Colonel, but I've always had dreams of helping to save the world and I think soldiers do their part, no doubt about it! Yourself included, just what isn't heroic about protecting innocents?!

[ Phew. ]

For a suitor?

I've never had an easy time of it, getting used to all this modern technology, most of it is really quite needless I have to say even if it can be convenient now and again but convenience doesn't mean necessary the way so many young people seem to think it does! That's a very specific example, Colonel, while I can't say that you're wrong I also can't say that I feel it would apply for everyone not to mention sometimes tragedy is simply inevitable, it's no one's fault and no one is any less of a hero for trying their best under those sorts of circumstances! What more can we ask of them?

[ He assumes the example doesn't include deliberate intent to cause tragedy, of course. ]

Oh, well that's an idea, they might well brighten the place up a bit if you think it needs a little more decoration. Women on the other hand you must be thinking of moving quickly if you're going to give your flowers off to anyone before they begin to wilt, maybe you ought to take more care in picking them out if you're looking to make an impression and you aren't in such a hurry! Although if you are in a hurry it's not all that far into town I suppose, you could find someone with a bit of looking!

[ Nelson, on the other hand, isn't a big fan of the flying cars. It's eerie!! ]

Yes, best to be as adaptable as you can when under uncertain circumstances and I think this if anything definitely qualifies as uncertain, we're very much out of our depth and if we don't do what we can to adjust we might never catch up properly and that might be to our enormous detriment, since who knows what we'll have to do in order to get ourselves home! Who possibly could? I agree with you completely, of course, especially if we're granted abilities upon our arrival here that the local citizens don't seem to share, it might as well be our duty to ensure that we use them responsibly, don't you think? I know I do!

And I wish you luck, I wish I could be more of a help, er, truly, I'm a bachelor you see and I don't have much need for florists, but I can at least do my part in asking around, why not? Just let me know what I can do for you, sir!
