Ladies and gentleman, it is with a heavy heart that I bring you this terrible news: The 4.7 rated restaurant, Maison d'etre has been lying to us all. Like you, I was fooled by the high praise it was receiving on such popular food blogs as "Good Morning Viet-nom!", "Let's Taco 'Bout Food" and "Making Ends Meat" who all labelled it a culinary adventure of locally sourced food.

However! [His voice breaks halfway through the word, wavering between anger and the desperate need to cry in disappointment.] I have since eaten there and can say with complete certainty that the only culinary adventure to be found in that excuse for a restaurant is the amount of imported ingredients they have on their menu! Even their corn is imported from Ukraine. Who can't find locally sourced corn in America?! I tell you, ladies and gentleman, I am just one big D right now. Disappointed!

[A sigh that's as weighty as the world itself, and... was that a small, barely restrained sob as he quickly bows his head? At least he's quick to compose himself, straightening himself up in his chair and puffing out his chest after a deep inhale.] But it's not all bad news. I, Charles Boyle, will be sure to continue conveying these injustices to the world!

And a few weeks from now, I'll also be sharing my knowledge of food to any folks willing to learn. Watch this space for Boiled Over, an imPort cooking show in front of a small live audience, set to delight and astound. [And just like that, his previous disappointment steadily creeps towards eagerness, because cooking is awesoooome.]

You sell Japanese food?! Oh boy, this might just be some of the best news yet. Where do you sell it?!

I sell mostly pastries and sweets which I make. Sometimes I have bigger dishes, like ramen, miso soup, but not actual meals. [ he touches his own chin, a bit embarrassed ]

The coffee shop is located in Nonah, and it's called :Re Café, if you wish to drop by.

Get out! I've just been discussing hosting my show at some import owned places! Maybe we could arrange something?! [Eager as ever at the concept of food.]

And of course, I'd love to come try some of it.

Oh, really? I wouldn't mind, it could be good publicity. [ even though the coffee shop is rather small ]

That'd be great! Do you make make any of it yourself, or do you have a cook come in?

I make everything myself. While I can't have a lot of daily variety because of that, I try to change the menu everyday.

I'd love to see you make some of it!

I usually bake things at home and bring them to the coffee shop, but I guess i can show you how I make ramen or miso? [ he usually makes hot dishes on the spot, after all ]

Then ramen and miso it'll have to be! Two fine dishes to observe. You know, it's so great to see that food can always bring people together, even when they're from all over the Universe.

I think so, too. Food is very important, though not everyone realizes it since eating is something we all have to do. [ kaneki smiles wider ] And I like seeing people enjoying themselves like that, that's why I like to cook.

It must be so great to own a cafe! Was that the job they assigned you or did you start it yourself?

I started it myself. When I first arrived I was a bookstore clerk, and then they put me with Heropa Police Department. Eventually I decided to venture on my own.

You were in the police?! Me too! Except. Not here. I've literally only just shown up here.

Really?

I was an investigator back home, here i was more like... a desk policeman? Sometimes I helped tourists and old ladies crossing the street too. [ HIS BOSS DIDN'T TAKE HIM VERY SERIOUSLY... ]

Would you prefer to be with the police here, as well?

Uhm, I'm not so sure yet. Nothing will really be the same as the precinct back home, and I've done my time as a beat cop already, I dunno if I really wanna go through that all over again. Especially if there's import discrimination!

I can't say it's discrimination, it's just-

we arrive from other world, and they have to accept our credentials even though we didn't take the exam or studied what they did. [ they probably find it a bit unfair ] Plus what i did back home was a bit different from what cops do here, so they probably weren't sure what to do with me.

They are very nice people, though, i learned a lot from them. [ he rally did, kaneki isn't just being nice.

Still! ] But I understand about not being the same. You can take some time with food here, and then see how that leads you.

If you are registered, most will accept your credentials without asking too much. But some jobs are stricter than others, naturally. It's a good thing the Police Department is.
