♕ video; one
[ When the video clicks on she's smiling, reserved but something proud despite itself in her expression. The background is one of the basic assigned rooms (this one in Maurtia Falls, but she hasn't decorated anything or shown anything but walls to tell by. ]
From what I've been come to understand so far, there are quite a few people here from my home galaxy, and many of us from different timelines.
So. [ She doesn't clear her throat, because that would be uncouth. ]
I am Padme Amidala, mother of Luke and Leia Skywalker, Queen of Naboo during the Occupation, and Senator of the Galactic Republic before the end of the Clone War.
[ And now there is a little bit of a smile, able to bring some lightheartedness to it. ]
And currently a hair model, apparently. I know there are many people from my galaxy here, but this is a new world and a new place to learn, and I am curious.
This system of representatives for those among us brought into this world without our consultation seems to be a good one, but I would like to know more about it from those who are familiar with the systems. I am pleased we are not pawns here entirely.
[ Entirely. ] Or if you are not familiar with how this system works but would like to know, we can work out the details together, or simply talk about how this system functions.
The more you know about your system of governance, the more chance you have to affect it.

It's not significant, it just appears to be to those who have recently arrived. In truth, this country's natives love us, they expect help from us and they look up to us; the government is protective of us, even if not in a way most would find any care in their protection. [ they are protective in a way that the whole world is looking at them and they need to ensure imPorts are not kidnapped, used by others and so on. ] They have many historical reasons to do all of this and to look at us this way.
However, recent events lead to many natives to be hurt, a lot of destruction and panic, and little actual help from us. [ imPorts are a very selfish group. kaneki is included in that, he knows it ] This lead to frustration and anger, which translated in acts of vandalism. [ which are no longer happening.
But kaneki feels like he must add - ] Of course, international sentiment can be different.
[ Video ]
[ She can see the point of limiting their influence in some aspects, but that doesn't mean she's pleased at the extent of it.
The set up seems far too fragile. ]
I've seen several anti-Import sentiments in graffiti and signs in this city - not an overwhelming amount, but significant enough. But it might be localized? I am still unfamiliar with much of the variances in this world and its locations.
[ Though his explanation could give a reasoning behind that. ] I have been provided some material on various incidents that occurred with imPorts and government organizations, but it is a great deal to go over.
International sentiment is different?
[ Video ]
But looking at it through a national scale, the sentiment is still largely positive towards us. [ IF they stop screwing up, but that's a lot to ask for from imports ]
And internationally, we arrived here in the middle of a war between two factions: America and USSR. While the whole world is not involved, each country has their own allies, naturally. [ though they really wish to avoid war ] Because we arrive to America and become its citizens, we tip the scale of war in favor of America, which leaves its enemies rather upset with our existence.
video forever
[ Look, Padme has a Lot Of Thoughts. ]
Yes, I've been doing some reading on that discord - war, I suppose? [ She's used to war being applied to things spanning worlds and millions of deaths, not this. Civil war, maybe? ]
I can see that. But do we really tip the scales? Much of the population of Imports seems to try to remain independent or seem to have no desire to be involved in the war.
Would it not be possible to consider us more of a destabilizing factor than a benefit?

[ to someone who can travel through the galaxy, a world at war could be called a civil war, sure. But... well, it's not so simple like that when the two factions cause cause the world to explode ]
We can say we are not interested in this war, but were Russia to enter US soil, we would immediately move to protect ourselves and where we live - which ends up being this country anyway. [ kaneki shakes his head softly ] No one can take our word for it; even if we say we would not move a muscle to help America, Russia would never believe it. [ which makes sense. they can't take their word for it ]

It seems you have a great deal of information about everything - more than just an informed observer.
[ "I'm not a political person". She remembers that opening statement well, but it's an interesting one when contrasted with what seems like rather intimate and indepth knowledge of the various political factions going around. But she's also leaning forward, one hand propping up her chin at this point. She's genuinely fascinated, and is also reading other information alongside talking to him. ]
That seems like a fair point. Would you consider the anti Import sentiment to be fueled by influence from outside this country, by chance? At least in part - I am sure there are many who understandably resent the gifts we have been given.
no subject
Not usually, no. Americans are very patriotic, and only a small fraction would go against their own country and be influenced by their own enemies. To be fair, imPorts have done a lot of wrong, and that's probably what helps the anti imPort sentiment the most, not outside countries.
no subject
[ That's P Important to her right now. But also, he's now an information source and she is absolutely going to mine it as long as she can. ]
So at least several Imports have turned to criminal actions despite the aid provided? How significant and how damaging? I can see easily how that would create resentment both among law abiding citizens and among criminals who are now being outdone by those who have abilities beyond theirs.

[ kaneki hums softly ] Since no one but Lachesis chooses the imPorts who arrive here, naturally some are not as heroic as the government would hope. Some are capable of a lot of damage, not just physical but also cause distress and emotional damage. Monetary driven crimes are a concern too, but there has been times of imPorts murdering natives and other imPorts simply because they were bored.

Lachesis is capricious at best, it seems. I have been unable to find that anyone has been able to find any real information on her. It's not an area in which I hold any expertise, certainly, but that still seems to me to be of suspicion.
no subject
[ he hums ] There is no one who truly knows her, but we have some information on her. Even before she was frustrating and most importantly - silent. She never said much about what she wanted.
no subject
[ Very simply, without real emotion to it at this moment. Simply facts. ]
And we do not know why she does not talk.
It seems odd, for something that has this much power to not attempt communication in some way or another.
no subject
She used to be very talkative, back in the world where she came from. but ever since arriving here, she continues to give us the silent treatment for some reason.
no subject
How very odd. There must be some reason for that, but I'm afraid my skills lie rather more in the field of politics and negotiation than attempting to understand a machine with that much power.
Have you tended to stick to observation over your time here, or have you gotten involved in any of these events personally?
no subject
[ he hums ] I have been involved. it's hard not to, no matter how hard you don't want to.

no subject
An opinion that from any of us would seem biased to the general population, though.
no subject
But it's true that the natives do think otherwise and hope for. They hope we will fix everything.
no subject
In your opinion, that is. Obviously it would be impossible to be certain without testing the hypothesis, which is not currently possible.
no subject
For example, I believe we keep the Russians from launching a full scale attack on this country. If we were to leave, there is a chance they’d attack. It’s true that our arrival tipped the scale of war, but the damage is already done and the scale will not go back to what it was just because we are no longer there.
That’s just a theory, however.

As are yours.
You've given me a great deal to think on, and I appreciate it. May I come to you should I find I have further questions on the history of this place?
