Ver 5.2 | Video
You know, we have a lot of really talented people here. Not that we didn't before -- us imports have always been pretty on top of things, but I think it goes without saying that without the talent and skill of everyone, there'd probably be a few of us that would be dead right about now. Or at least we'd have died. So, I don't think anyone's said it yet, but thanks, to everyone who helped get us out of there.
[ And there's a pause there, he's trying to be nice, and his ego is suffering. ]
I'd like to say we could have done it ourselves, but... well, you can't always predict for unpredictability, and getting us quickly could have been what saved our lives.
But, that's not the only reason I'm here. It's been a busy couple of weeks, not just from our unfortunate attempt to go to space, but for me personally. [ He indicates behind him, it's obviously an office, more strewn with metal and wires and parts than anything else. It's, frankly, an absolute mess. ] I got the loan a few weeks ago, but other than a few people I've gotten in on the ground floor, we haven't had much opportunity for hiring. Startups are always complicated.
But I'm happy to say, that if you want to work in tech and R&D, you should probably come talk to me. I can't promise high wages -- yet -- but I take care of my people, and with a few choice inventions, we'll be able to hit the ground running, and I'd like to see anyone with talent come talk to me. I promise, you won't regret it.
At least, you won't if you don't mind working for me.

[ Oh, he already likes her. ]
We could run with that, work on making it better. I've made prosthetic organs before [ in a cave with a box of scraps ] but it's always been pretty rudimentary. I think we could work to make that technology a lot better, don't you?

There is a time period that someone wanting automail has to be aware of - depending on the limb, it can take a year or more to learn how to manipulate it properly. There have been people who've done it in less time. [She thinks of Ed, and Lan Fan.] But rushing takes a lot out of the user.
And...one more thing. I've designed ports, and assisted in the surgery to install them, but I've never been the lead surgeon. I know how it's done, and how to make sure everything works properly, but threading the nerves into the port is a very...it's incredibly painful, and the person must be awake throughout it, without any kind of anesthetic, because the surgeon has to know the nerves are working properly.
[Because she definitely wants that out there.]
I would love to make it easier on the user - less painful with the port surgery. I don't know if that's possible. But if there is a way to make automail lighter, and still remain as strong, and create some sort of internal temperature regulation, so it isn't as affected by heat and cold, that would be amazing.

Well, that'll be... intense. I'd say, if you're going to work for me, we're going to run simulations first. Our prosthesis aren't normally quite so elegant -- at least the ones readily available on the market aren't -- but there's no reason we can't get that to work a bit better.
I've seen it done -- hell, I've done it better, with robotics, but... I'd like to see the transference of sensation happen a bit better. And maybe there's a way to do that, by working the technologies together. The best of both worlds, if you would.

I'd like to talk to you about it more, sir, in person. I can show you some drafting workups I've done for arms and legs. Oh, I have a leg here I can show you!
[She's not going to mention she has an arm here, too. It's currently attached to someone, and Ed's cranky about her showing off his automail, no matter how proud of it she is.]

[ Spoilers, it's most of it, thanks to being pretty much a computer. ]
I'd be happy to, especially if you look to sign on with me. I think it would work to both of our advantages.

I'm willing to talk about leaving my job, but I think...I'm supposed to start school soon?
no subject
That should be fine. Part time is something I can work with, if we need to.

I! Uh. I'm...dedicated, not a genius!
[Don't believe her.]
Then...I would like to make an appointment to meet with you, sir. I'm Winry Rockbell.
no subject
And I'll make that decision for myself whether you are or aren't. As a former child genius myself, I think I know what I'm looking for.

[Uh. What's your name, while we're at it?]
no subject
And sorry he assumes everyone knows who he is. What a dick. ]

[She wouldn't want to interrupt something, after all. Whoever this man is.]

no subject
[Surely that's his name?]
no subject
[ See? Everyone knows him!! ]
no subject
Likewise, sir!
[She nods as she breaks the connection.]
