From what I've observed of your fiction, humans put aliens into two categories. Either they are violent invaders or they are so superior and intelligent that all of their tech is way beyond your human brains and it makes Earth look low and aggressive in comparison. Either way, somebody is blasting the other.

Is this what the majority of you believe about us?

Yes, some of you would have clearly noticed that I'm not human and not hiding that fact is sometimes a risky proposition. Case in point... what I already said.

Not every alien fits into those two boxes.

Personally, what are your views about aliens?

That depends what terrifies you.

[Closer, his eyes are very vivid and red. No pupils to be seen. No obvious nose and blue skin. He very much looks like a typical alien - aside from the cowboy hat.]

[He brushes his fingers across his cheeks, motioning down.]

It looks like you wear a mask; a gas mask. People are going to be suspicious of someone who looks as if they're hiding their identity, unless they're, you know, doing their superheroing.

[He touches the tubes that are attached to his cheeks.]

These are for my protection.

You really think my face looks like a mask? Ironic then that this is the opposite of hiding.

What do they do?

Suppose not, but that's also a suspicious sort of answer, innit.

This isn't about me - unless you're honestly attempting to learn more about aliens. In which case, some things are still personal.

Yeah, well, I didn't say it was fair, did I. But the truth of the matter, right, is that if we don't know, we're gonna guess, and some guesses are gonna be less kind than others.

So you're automatically mistrustful of aliens.

I'm not talking about me, I'm telling you why you might get a bad reaction on the street, mate. Me, I've got a rather tame guess.

Fucking hell, all right. All right, my view on aliens is that you're curious. Strange. Not bad, right, but very strange, on the whole.

Hard to give more detail than that when we've got so many different species running about.

Strange because of the unknown?

Strange because of the unimaginable. Sitting at home in 1922, as I was two years ago, I could have dreamed up that someday humans might travel into space, or develop video picture quality so clear it looks as if the person's standing right in front of you. But a creature that's got tubes growing out of his face, without wearing a mask? No; no, I couldn't've thought of that.

These aren't organic. They're a tool. If you must know, they act like a filter.

For the air? That was my thought, that you need 'em to breathe because the air is toxic to you.

[It's a guess that's half inspired by the fact that they really do remind him of a gas mask, and half inspired by "War of the Worlds".]

But they're attached to your cheeks and not your mouth. Yeah?

[So that's confusing to him, and had made him second-guess the theory.]

You're assuming that my physiology is exactly like a human.

Yeah, I am. Back to the unimaginable, again. You could have your heart in your knee and your dick growing out of your back for all I know.

With the amount of different alien beings in the galaxy, anything you can imagine is highly possible.

For somebody, yeah. I suppose. The odds of them showing up here, though - not likely.

Why do you say that?

Imagine all the things that are possible, mate. It's infinite, yeah? Fucking infinite. Now, of all those infinite possible imaginings, pick out the comparatively small amount that I might think of off the top of my head. What are the odds that I'm gonna alight on the exact combination of strangeness that shows up here tomorrow? More likely, it'll be something I'd never have thought of.
