I don't really make posts on this thing--I never really know what to say, for one. And it kind of feels a little bit weird being a forty-something dad and using this thing basically to blog. But, anyway, considering I haven't posted in months and I don't really know half of you...well, might as well do this.

I'm Curt Connors, and I'm from the same world as...God, a ton of people. Tony Stark, Peter Parker, the couple of X-Men we've got here, Spider-Man... [ he cuts himself off with a small laugh. ] And probably a ton of other people from that world who I just don't know yet. Anyway, I work with reptiles pretty much on a daily basis, so if you've got questions about snakes or lizards, I'm your guy.

...is that all? Uh, I don't really know what people say on these sort of things.

[ look at Connors not being a recluse, aren't you proud of him? there's a pause though, before he barrels into another question, his tone of voice more apprehensive now. ]

Ah, I do have a question, though. How would formal education work here? I had a doctorate back home, and I'd kind of like to have it again. Being an assistant research biologist is nice, but you're still an assistant. I know that with lawyers you can simply retake the bar, and with doctors I'm sure you can prove your skills in a medical setting, but I'm not exactly sure how the rest of us would prove our knowledge.

It's not like I can get my diploma or published research from across dimensions, after all.

Got it in one. And, while months of dedicated employee research are great for working your way up, it's not the same as having a PhD.

I honestly have no idea. If I had to guess though, it's because my world already has superheroes, so in theory we'd be more prepared for helping out and being a hero. [ a pause before he guiltily adds, ] In theory. I'm not a superhero at all.

Mr. Connors, good to know I'm not the only one in that position. But on the bright side, you have a position that deals with your field of choice while I have a PhD in biochemistry but working as an assistant particle physicists.

I can't say I'm familiar with your field, but - would it be possible to set up a test to prove you're competent? I know a lot of people here are willing to give imPorts a little more leeway, so...

I'm not entirely sure. My field was highly specialized: reptiles. Still, I can't be the only reptile expert in Florida, right?

It's a curious question. With some, they seem happy to give their faith that we are competent; some are required to prove their skills. I was allowed to simply take up work as an attorney, while some amongst my comrades had to sit for the bar. And that we would have right to work in positions of trust and prestige, while you would be limited to being an assistant...

Perhaps you could speak with academics of some stature here. Perhaps they might write letters of reference supporting your knowledge and abilities.

It is a thing that actually happens, though it's not very likely. It happens mostly in early summer, at pools near lakes or other sources of water--though, heavy rainfall at any point of summer can help drive those guys out of their homes.

Ah, the place that I come from has some of those strange groups. We've got the Avengers and the X-Men. And I wouldn't call my "thing" just snake-focused: my range of study encompasses all reptiles.

I don't know how actual education would work but I'm in EMT training. Fees are waived, and I can use government facilities to commute.

But I doubt you'd be interested in following my footsteps into the world of emergency medicine.
