I was here before. I don't remember it. I've gone through my network presence, but that's limited information. [ he's also beginning to slowly gather information from people like kay and poe, but well-- ] Apologies to those that knew me.
[ admittedly, even putting himself out on the network like this is enough to trigger his well-developed paranoia, but he has to start somewhere if he intends to get.. better. ]
Additionally, a question for those who've been in active, sustained conflict; in particular, those deployed multiple times into warzones. Do you have tips for living a civilian life? Things that have worked for you to help you adjust, books that are worth a read on the subject, even problems you've had to deal with.

and I dunno
but my advice is, don't slide right into civilian life right off the bat, there's always something happening on this mudball
no subject
Fine.
Assuming I'd have the first idea how to. I looked into what's happened lately, though.

Depending on where you were deployed, I'd also recommend getting someone trustworthy to do at least one circuit of the streets you're going to be frequenting.
And take a chance to train with whatever powers you've got now. Figuring out how to restrain them will help for the times when you get jumpy.
What kind of warzones were you deployed to?
no subject
he should ignore this. he should-- but he's well-aware that there are infinite shades of gray on both sides of the war back home. cassian's done terrible, cruel things, and imperials can be decent people. rarely.
and it's good advice, admittedly. ]
The kind I can't talk about. Occasionally they weren't so unlike what you've seen, I expect.

That's cool of him. Cool that people are helping too. Laura should know that the best thing here would be to scroll on by. he's looking for help in a good way and she isn't needed here.
but Laura got sad, and Laura got drunk, so here's someone else. ]
are you dead?
Physically or otherwise.

Cassian. You're back!
What is the last thing you remember? Do you remember Scarif?
no subject
Jyn?
I sent you a message. Scarif is the last thing I remember.

I've adjusted since being here, but when I first arrived, I had to have something like the TV on for background noise because the silence was horrible and I couldn't sleep.
Welcome back.

Unfortunately, adjusting to civillian life still isn't easy despite how many months I've been here. There's still this idea that I could be doing something more.
I think it's easier to share it with people. Kanan's had an easier time of it than I have...
no subject
How long have you been here?
I've spoken to him briefly. He mentioned the dojo.

i'd say just take it at your own pace. don't try to force yourself to fit into what seems like a "normal" schedule and don't be upset if you mess it up for a while. it happens.
there's lots of stuff on the internet about it, articles and guides for settling in. that might be easier than going to a library? depends
no subject
I'll likely get most of my information online. I thought it might be of use to get import input first, though.

Cassian, hello. It's good to see you again, though I'm sure it must be strange for you to to hear that from so many people you don't know.
I'm Padme Amidala. I was a Senator in the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, but I died at the end of them while you were still I believe young.
Here, I'm an Ambassador for the Import community, and I try to keep an eye out for those from our galaxy. Many of us have trouble fitting into the idea of a life not lived at war.
It will take time, and patience. But I am sure you will be able to find your place here.
no subject
it's been a long time since then. ]
I remember you, Ambassador. Not from here. You're right that I was young, though.
I have K2. He's reason enough for me to sort myself out.

[He's trying to be funny, heavy with the sarcasm. But the seriousness of the topic that follows earns a heavy sigh and some level of reverence from Lance.]
...Adjusting to civilian life isn't easy if you're used to the war zone. It can be different for everyone. How long have you been in combat? That's a factor for sure.

as for your question .. i haven't been in a super sustained like .. all-out war zone sort of thing, but prior to coming here, i .. had more than enough crap going on on a smaller scale to probably count. we were heading towards a city-wide, possibly country-wide war, and heading there fast.
this book, if it's here, was pretty good, according to some of my veteran friends back home. for me, i had to sort of .. retreat into the people around me. find those you were closest to, if they're here (and i hope they are), and take refuge in each other and what you've gone through together. that's what kept me grounded through most of it.
no subject
the book, though, seems promising, especially if it was recommended by others who've been in similar positions as cassian. ]
Thank you, I'll try to find the book. We don't have the same sort of resources back home that are apparently available here.
[ sort of funny if you consider it, since this world is supposedly so backwards in other respects. ]
My experiences are somewhat different from others who were part of the Alliance, and I'm afraid there's a lot that I can't talk about. Though given my last stay here, that may be a moot point anyway.
