ok here is the question:

Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

like where do i even start with that

Well, we can't really answer that one for you. Is there really no story of your past that comes to mind when reading those words? A moment that marked you and helped you grow?

It depends on how you spin it. Anything can form a good story if you write well and passionately about it. That's a lot of what journalism is about, really: finding the right words to make the news poignant, while still being 100% honest and using just the facts.

What's a story you could use?

[Jayden no don't trust Freddie (or actually do, sensational is what this kind of essays are about anyway).]

Actually, assuming you can spin it in a positive light that sounds perfect. Russian kid who comes to America and sees the best it has to offer? They will eat it up.

[He'd know, he's had to convince people he loves America even though he's wasn't born there plenty of times in the past.]

But you might have to spin your birth country in a bad that light for that to work, so you might not be comfortable with that.

[A little...]

Then I'm sure you'll manage. You just have to focus on the good things that happened to you in America and how they changed you. It is going to be a bit tricky to get into college being originally from Russia, I'm not going to lie. So you might as well spin it around and use it to your advantage.

Americans might not actually love an underdog, but they do love underdog stories.

In the end it's your essay, anyway, so it's up to you. Good luck with it. Do you have someone to read it over when you're done?

If you want I don't mind, this kind of thing is a serious matter so you should probably get as many opinions on it as possible.

I don't think we have. Nice to meet you Jayden, I'm Clark Kent.

Two months. I'm still getting the hang of how things work in this place.

You?

If you're even going to apply for college I'd say you're doing just fine. And honestly, after being pulled away from our world with no warning it's no surprise that we take our time to adapt.
