WILL YOU HELP SAVE THE WORLD?

Mask or Menace is a panfandom urban 'superhero' genre DWRP game, where heroes, villains, and everyone in between seek to survive and thrive in a world loosely parallel to our own.

[ A Hispanic woman— olive-brown skin, glossy black hair pulled back into a pony tail—is visible, and looking very clearly unhappy; she's on the verge of anger, really. The area behind her is very clearly in Heropa.]

I would love to know what makes people think it's fine to go around kidnapping people and force them into helping with their own goals, especially when it involves giving them crazy powers and dragging them out of their normal lives. [Especially now that this seems to be a recurring thing for her family.]

I know they say they still have the Cold War going on here, but this? This is absurd. Throwing superpowers at people isn't going to do anything.

[She takes a moment to compose herself. She already got angry with a soldier when she arrived in the first place. Other people in the same position probably don't need it too.]

I'm Bianca Reyes, by the way. Normally, I'm just a nurse, but they can't leave that alone either.

[The device is unfamiliar to Van, but he has always been a quick study. After a brief fumble with the initial direction of the camera, he appears upright on screen, a young man with earthy red eyes, wild black hair, and a stern expression that suggests he is attempting to, and only halfway succeeding at, controlling a barrage of intense emotions.

Probably confusion and disorientation, the same sort almost all imPorts feel upon their arrival, though some more so than others, particularly those who hail from worlds much less advanced than this one...]

I'm looking for two friends of mine.

[He's abrupt and to the point, seemingly unhappy with having to ask for help, but obviously knowing that he's without any alternative options at the moment.]

We were traveling together before I found myself here. Merle, Hitomi...I've been told that this is the quickest way to reach you if you've also been brought here by that Porter.

[If...

Van's expression darkens, and a gloved hand rises to cover the lens of the camera.]

...I would be grateful to anyone who has perhaps heard of them, or who recognizes the names Gaea or Zaibach.

[The latter said with such potent disdain it's a wonder the young man's voice didn't crack before he simply...disconnects.]

[The feed opens to the very disgruntled voice of a very angry person.]

So, hey, people of this shithole of a planet. Here's a question.

How many of you are sick and fucking tired of the Porter messing with you?

Show of hands, pie charts -- hell, I'll even give anyone extra points for pictures of flipping off a government building.

I mean, I knew about the whole "Oh, hey, I feel like being a dick and teleporting you out for a few months just for a goddamn laugh" but to throw in a new useless, annoying power as well?

[There's some muffled grumbling and swearing for the next few seconds as Church presumably re-situates himself.]

Good to see it's the same shitty, annoying Porter in the same shitty, annoying world.

[...............]

And uh.... does... anyone know how to get a leg unstuck from a wall?

[ When Baelish appears on the screen, he is sitting comfortably in his office, the camera propped up on the desk and his hands fold together across the surface. The gleam of his mockingbird sigil is evident at his collar as is the jeweled Narnia hunting pin on his sleeve. A physical sign of his and Lucy's alliance far before he even speaks the words. ]

Greetings to my fellow imPorts, old and new.

My name is Petyr Baelish, the Lord part of my name is optional of course. When I first addressed the network, it was to talk about your thoughts and feelings toward this war and the ambassadors who served each of the imPort cities. I received a lot of valuable feedback and made some interesting friendships because of it. And now, I come to talk to you about the same things -- only this time as a man who will be running to represent you in the city of Maurtia Falls.

cutting this because Baelish doesn't know the meaning of tl;dr )

[ Sam is wearing one hell of a grin as he makes sure his video is steady. He backs up, and in view behind him is a small pick-up truck with a high cap over the bed. It may have once been powder-blue, but those days are clearly well behind it.

But hey, it has tires. Honest to god tires.
]

It was hard enough findin' one that doesn't hover, but throw stick-shift in the mix and you'd think I was askin' to buy the first printing press. [ his grin widens. ] Hell, I feel like a hunter showin' off a trophy.

But bein' able to avoid public transportation? Or just go campin'? That's priceless.

She's gonna need a name though, for good luck. [ Sam levels a playfully serious look on the camera. ] Can't go drivin' a cursed truck. So, any suggestions?

[Leonard Snart isn't the type to just blunder onto the network and ask confused questions, so by the time of this recording, he's already been busy getting answers.

This is further reconnaissance more than anything else. Oh, and puns. Mustn't forget those.

The camera comes on and he can be seen leaning back against a building's wall. Doesn't seem like it'd be comfortable, but he makes it work.]

So. The Cold War.

Cool.

[It's possible that there's a chill running down the spine of anyone listening, but that might just be due to how terrible the pun is. Or perhaps his voice, putting just a little bit too much emphasis on everything. Possibly also because of his power.]

Where I'm from, we'd already dealt with that. Interesting times though. Got very heated.

So, this is a war. Who are we rooting for? Are the commies drafting random people too?

I've been inside a Gulag once, not really looking for a repeat there.

[The recording cuts off here, but as he packs the device away, he actually walks inside the building and enters Heropa #020, to see whatever expects him there.]

[ Babs isn't quite beaming at the camera when it turns on, but there's an obvious excitement in her expression, even as she tries to play it oh-so cool. she doesn't love being away from home without notice, but there's a lot to be done here, so she's feeling pretty good about it. good enough that she's feeling up to posting to this big wide network of people, despite knowing perfectly well it'll put her out there in a much bigger way than just, y'know, showing up here in the first place.

she knows she's not the only Batgirl here, but she's prepared to handle that too. yeah. this is all going to be perfectly fine. and no, this optimism doesn't come easily to her, it really doesn't. but it's not like she's about to talk about that here, so. who cares, right? it's all good. mostly she's just hoping to see a familiar face.
]

Hello, --network! [ amazing start ] Does the network here have a name? That is definitely something I should know by now. But, not important. Hi. My name is Barbara Gordon, I'm still very much new here, but I am officially moved into my new place, and I'm feeling properly acquainted with the city itself, so-

Now? Now I'm in the mood for a giant cup of coffee and some small talk, if anybody would like to hang out. [ she holds up a finger ] Only a little small talk, please. Basic introductions, then we can skip all the awkward weather slash local sports team or celebrity gossip for something a little more interesting. [ i'd like to make new friends now, please and thanks. and she'll of course be doing as much network snooping as possible before meeting anyone, but hey. only way to get her social life back in order is to get.. one. so. ] That's it for me, I think. I'll- hopefully talk to you all soon.

[ she gives a short wave goodbye, then disconnects the feed.

... the only problem with that is that the transmission only lasted a couple of seconds, and she somehow kind of sounded like she was talking in fast-forward. her words babbled out way too fast, kind of like this, yeah. woo! guess who has superspeed and has no idea how to control it yet? this girl! somebody help her. please. or just watch her transmission in slow-motion, maybe. that'll work too.
