[02] Video; Backdated to Friday May 1st

[ Hey, everyone. It's Walt. You may remember this guy from such videos as drunk posting in his underwear. But in case you don't (and hopefully you don't), Walt is fully clothed this time. He still looks every bit as weary as his video debut, but at least he isn't drunk. That's a plus. ]

I apologize in advance for any inconvenience. It seems as though the Heropa pharmacy was caught up in whatever chaos erupted in the city and suffered some damages. We will be closed until further notice, but I will be doing my best to ensure prescriptions still get out to everyone who used my pharmacy to have them filled. We have a sister pharmacy that has temporarily taken on accounts here in Heropa. Though if it's more convenient for imPorts, I can have things forwarded to the other imPort cities.

Repairs have already begun, so I don't anticipate us being closed for over a couple weeks. If anyone wants to offer their assistance in helping rebuild the damaged sections, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I hope everyone has been well and continues to be well now that the worst of this is all behind us.

Really?

[Chilton clenched the map in hand, his own temper beginning to boil. It was clear that Walt had pulled the curtain, and now the show was done. There was no coaxing the chemist out of his fouled mood. There was only room to exit.]

Really, you intend for me to walk myself back to civilization?

[Which was not, in fact, what Chilton intended to do. Once he was out of sight, he would use his Psychic Vehicular Driving ability to locate a parked car and summon it to him -- which granted might take half an hour to pull the car, speed limits depending, but that was better than three hours of hiking in full suit and tie to some semblance of relief.]

Fine. Fine, Heisenberg. But I'm not going to forget this.

[He sneered, casting one last glare, before letting himself out. Good thing they had a week to cool off.]

I doubt even the Major General and my Captain workin' together coulda kept 100% order in all that, so I can see why. It ain't like the quarantine stopped the sickness from spreadin', either- but it felt safer there.

[ Walt tensed, glancing over his shoulder at Chilton. He evoked Chilton's anger and a part of him was glad. But the other part felt like he had seen this scene play out before. And although Walt was the one to kick Chilton out of his cabin, he felt his stomach sink.

Walt watched Chilton go and narrowed his eyes in resolve. No. Chilton deserved it. Trying to treat him the way Crane treated him, to look down on him, to evade talking about things with Crane, to deny him anything other than a doctor/patient relationship. He turned back to his dish water, glared at it for a minute or two before he swore to himself. Leaving the water behind, he wiped his hands on his shirt, rushing after the psychiatrist. ]

Chilton. Wait.

[ This was just like watching Jesse leave. This was just like Crane. He couldn't just let Chilton walk away. Even though he should have. Even though he thought it was what he wanted. ]

Yes. You upset me. [ He confessed, jogging from the steps to the psychiatrist to try and close the gap. ]

Because I don't think you understand the weight of the things I've done here tonight.

[ He looked back at the cabin and then back to Chilton. ]

I don't think you understand that what I'm offering to you isn't just poisons, or seeing this cabin, or psychoanalyzing me. What I'm offering you is the very thing Crane refused. And if you deny that for me, too...

[ Walt's brows furrowed and he glanced off to the side. ]

I don't have anyone here. Not my family. Not Jesse or Hank, because all either of them are is ghosts from my past -- a reminder of the things I ruined. I don't...

[ He reached out, his hand resting on Chilton's shoulder, trying to anchor him to the damn property. ]

I can't lose you, too. This isn't how I wanted things to go.

Hm. [ Sympathetically, maybe: ] You sound like someone with a lot to get back to.

I believe it stayed out of the other cities, though. Which was good. And good to know my presence elsewhere didn't spread it.

[ He laughs a little. ]

It would have been awful knowing I was patient zero in Maurtia Falls.

[ Walt flinches. He can't even hide it. And then he hesitates before: ]

Actually, no. I have nothing back home. I am one of the few who got a second chance at life in this world.

[ A pause. ]

Late stage lung cancer.

[ And a bullet wound to the side. ]

[ Walt laughs. ]

I hope this is only a one time deal. If it happens again, well, I'll really have to question my luck.

[ No, Hank! Walt can't! Digs that hole deeper. ]

I was friends with Crane, Hank. For the first couple of months, we got along very well. But then the more I got to know him, the more I saw that he's hiding something. Something dangerous.

[ It's alright to say this, isn't it? It's alright to warn this way. As long as Walt doesn't sell out what it is exactly that Crane's concocting...this is the best thing he can do for Hank, right?

Either that or this will make Hank investigate him more. Shit. ]

As soon as I realized this, I immediately ended the friendship and have been keeping my distance. But I have a bad feeling about him, and I don't want to see you fall into any unorthodox things he might be doing. He's a chemist too, you know. So please, just exercise caution, Hank.

Well yes. Of course you're right. And I'm not trying to say you're not still any of those things. Backgrounds are important in defining a person.

But more what I mean is that you're not a queen of anything in this world. Just as I'm no chemistry teacher here. We're just people, coming together from different backgrounds. But no one is necessarily higher ranked than anyone else. Does that make a little more sense?

[ omg Jeff. You are the rudest. ]

Well, I mean, you can either pay more money for that good oil or you can save that money and enjoy life a little more.

[ Shrug. Or you can make a meth empire and then money is no object. Buy a new car whenever the old one needs an oil change.... ]

And regret it later in life when that finely tuned engine has turned to shit thanks to negligence? Yeah, no thanks.

[You can't buy a new body, Walt, that's not how metaphors work!]

God, I can only imagine. Disease is such an awful thing to deal with- I don't know how doctors can handle it.

It'd be suspicious if it happened again, wouldn't it? Like someone was targeting you.

[ The fucks given on this matter are growing smaller and smaller for Hank. ]

Yeah, 'cause you're just the beacon of stellar decision making when it comes to good ol' buddies, huh?

[ No leg to stand on when he crawls to Chilton and Pinkman no matter what their level of garbage. Hank's not interested in being friends with Crane, anyway, but Hank's not the one that's been driven to ~~cooking meth~~ going to therapy here. ]

Everyone here's hiding something, the government gave every imPort a blank slate. My job's already a nightmare and you're preaching to the goddamn choir, so just focus on your pharmacy and stick a cork in it already.

[ Speaking his language, bro. ] I am on your side. All the way. Don't think they're any better than what i'm used to and- me and keyboards? Not a love song that was meant to be written, we don't get along any better. And who the hell ever thought texting was a good idea? I mean, what's so wrong with a phone call.

[ Okay thats enough bitching, you can stop now, Ray.... but wait. ]

Yeah sure, except for how I was hoping the cars stayed on the ground. I'm a classics guy, don't need my car drifting off anywhere.

[ Ah. Norman suppresses any change in expression he may be tempted towards, his face remaining curious and neutral. He nods once, a simple acknowledgement. ]

Then you're one of few capable of understanding the full potential of this world. Only those who have faced loss -- or have been threatened with it -- really do seem to understand opportunity when it's presented, no matter how elaborate or how subtle.

I find it inspiring. Life goes on, and here we are to witness it.

[Chilton felt the weight of Walt's hand, the meaning inherent to that grip. It stilled his step immediately. There was a certain power that Walt had the tendency to demonstrate, and Chilton detected a whiff of dissociation in the exhibition. The man who commanded him to stay, the individual who gripped him with a Napoleonic fist -- that wasn't merely Walter White, former teacher. That was Heisenberg. That was an apex predator.

Even now, with his emotional confession, even that exuded an air of demand. Even as Walt employed a pathos-based argument, Chilton could see the strength behind it.]

It's all right, Walter. [Chilton turned to face his patient, his voice already lubricated with the cucumbered sooth of a psychiatric inflection. This was his professional voice, intended to be auditory medication.] I'm glad you've discussed your intent, I think all we had was a little miscommunication.

[Chilton minimized the conflict with tone, with word choice.]

I'm not about to leave, not now.

[But not because Chilton found Walt's worded plea compelling; it was because beneath that request, Chilton could see the danger lurking.]

They certainly had their hands full with this recent plague, that's for sure.

Good.

[ Walt nodded. ]

Good.

[ He confirmed -- relieved. He certainly hadn't wanted to go through the motions to make Chilton stay.

Walt kept his hand on the psychiatrist's shoulder while the other moved in to gingerly pluck the makeshift map out of Chilton's grasp. And then Walt pulled back completely to tear it up -- destroying the location and hoping Chilton hadn't already committed it to memory. ]

Come back inside? I mean, are you busy this evening? You can stay a little longer, if you want.

Well, people always talk about some sort of afterlife. I was never one to believe in that sort of thing myself. I think most would be surprised at the shape this afterlife took, however. I mean -- superheroes?

But I guess I can see things from your perspective. It is pretty incredible to see some of these things -- things that should be impossible, but aren't.

Does it frustrate you, though? As a fellow scientist, I mean. We're so used to having a certain understanding about how things work. And yet, this world seems to throw all of that to the wind.

It would be. Though it's possible that they wouldn't be targeting me specifically -- but what they hope to gain from the pharmacy. A lot of medications wound up missing after this explosion.

There are people who will do whatever it takes to obtain drugs, unfortunately. I suppose after all of this, the best thing I can do would be to tighten security.

[ One of these days, Hank is going to see what Walt was trying to warn him about. And while Walt will probably be too distracted being pissed off at Crame, he will want to say 'you should have listened to me.'

But it's clear Hank isn't going to listen now. And the jabs at not only Walt's choice of companions but the attack on his state of mind serves to piss him off. ]

You know something? Don't bother coming tomorrow. I'll deal with this myself. You have enough on your plate and far be it for me to add to that.

[ The anger and sarcasm are just brimming in his voice and he's not even trying to hold back how mad he is at Hank right now. ]

I think I can use my stellar decision making enough to know when to stop talking to someone is holding back my progress.

[ And with that final, angry snap -- Walt hangs up. ]

[ You can always come back to life in a weird superhero land, tho. When that body shits out. ]
