[It's time to play the 'who's awake at 1 AM' game! If you're not, Tetsuo's talking softly enough that it might not wake you. If you want to see or answer this later in the day ~~when normal people are awake~~, feel free, but please specify.]

Everybody's got powers, right? That's why they want us to stick around...

[You can just hear how much he likes that prospect. He all but spits those last two words out like it's a curse.]

So anyway, I'm curious.

How many of you have 'side effects' from them? Anybody know? I know there's gotta be more than one... but it's not all of you, is it?

I - nnghh. I wanna know why that is... why's it only some people?

[To be fair, he DID have help, but like hell he's going to admit that.
Was it really that obvious he had some? That was him, trying to be subtle. But FINALLY he's not the only one who has to suffer from something around here.]

Depends on what you mean by side effect, but my power requires energy so it tires me out with repeated use. I can recharge by resting, but I can only use it so much at once.

So, what? You just get tired?

[None of these dumb persona kids sleep at normal times, obvs. In fact, Shinji seems to be chilling out on the floor with a huge snake flopped over his chest, slowly slithering her way up over his shoulder, as though she's considering climbing what looks to be a cat tree behind him.]

The ones I got when I showed up didn't- they just sort of fed into each other. [Shinjiro shrugs.]

My power from back home is just a huge pain in the ass on its own... but I dunno if I'd call that a 'side-efftec'. What's yours doing?

[Since Tetsuo's paying no attention to his end, his feed'll default over to video.

It's pretty dark in his room. Obvious points of interest are a broken window behind him, mostly visible because the light from the communicator lying on his bed glints against a few jagged edges along the frame, and a puffed up angry cat outlined on a shelf. Tetsuo himself is lit from below by the same light source, and seems to have one hand perpetually glued to his head.]

Didn't say mine was doing anything...

[It's hard to see under the bangs, but there's definitely some brow-raising at the broken window. Get that fixed or covered, bro. You're gonna get bugs all up in your bed!!]

Nah, you didn't. But either it's you, or you're just so damn concerned for someone you know that you gotta ask the whole network.

[What with the 'there has to be more than one' comment, and all. He shrugs.]

Not like it matters, either way. What's someone's doing, then?

Essentially. It's not a direct long term effect. Back home, it was just dangerous because it meant I'd have a harder time fighting.

And that's it? That's no different than any other fighting.

[He's really not fooling anyone. Especially not with video on. Because while he can try to not make noise for audio, it's beyond any acting skills he doesn't posses to disguise being visibly in pain.]

Head hurts... All the time.

Not everyone has the same kind of powers. It stands to reason the effects would be different for everyone.

I'm guessing you're one of the not-so-lucky winners. [ or a friend? but the former seems more likely, and that guess is the faster path to an answer either way. ]

[Well, Jesse's of the personal opinion that the price for his power was given to him as a sort of divine punishment. But that's not the kind of thing you can just say out loud in public. So he'll put it this way:]

Fate's a bitch.

[ She sets the communicator on the table in the kitchen so her face is visible, resting her head into her palm. ]

If I'm not careful I get headaches. I had a lot of them in the beginning when I got a new power and stomach aches with another. They've gotten better since so maybe if you've got side effects they won't last long.

[Eventually he'll work out settings on this thing so it doesn't go to defaults, but for now, doesn't look like Tetsuo's messed with it. Or that he's paying attention to what his own comm's doing whatsoever, though he does look down when the screen flicks on.]

You think... it's fate?

So that's it? ...Yeah. I guess so.

[Gee, could he sound any more bitter there. At least it's a reason - not like he needed more reasons for why his life sucks.]

[One of these days Tetsuo'll work out how to keep what he set the thing to instead of replying in the same vein as anybody else. He's not in the best shape ever; though the room is dark, it's pretty clear from the illumination the communicator provides that the kid hasn't slept well for a while.

Judging by the way he's holding his head, he might also share that headache thing.]

That so... How long did it take?

ARE YOU SURE because you're kind of groaning and talking about side effects.

YES, I'm sure! It's just a question!

[There's a muffled thump as Tetsuo lets himself fall back onto his bed. Why was life.]
