Video

[ Cisco sits back from turning the video feed on, his garage/workshop visible in the background, and goes back to fiddling with a project on his workbench while he talks. ]

So, what kind of movies do you guys like? Back home, I mean. I know stuff is weird here and some movies don't exist, and they have stuff some of us don't have back home, so if there's any good universe-local movies I'm missing out on that only exist here, I could use some recs, too. Bonus points if there's any really good alternate universe versions of stuff I'd know from home. Negative points if it's propaganda crap, because there's enough of that on TV as it is.

[ He props up the thing he's working on to get at the bottom of it, and it looks like a projector. Wonder what that could be for! ]

Is there going to be some kind of free movie-night thing? Because I could totally get behind that and okay, so you want to know favorite movies? ANY big monster movie--Mothra, Gamera--but especially Godzilla; I mean the original--didn't care for the remake. [And he means the 1998 one. The 2014 one would have probably been in post-production, but cancelled because it would have been bad for business to release a Godzilla movie after 2013 had a real-life Godzilla attack]. Dinosaurs are also a plus. For the sake of more options: my buddy probably could get behind any good--and by good, I mean really good, he has exceptionally high standards--sci-fi thing. He especially likes spacey shit like--I don't know--original Star Trek and Contact (Sagan's one of his heroes, ok--but I'm just assuming he's into this), 2001, that kind of thing, and might even be fussed to watch something with good use of AI or robotics. He's critical of science in fiction, though, so he's going to be a tough sell.

But me, I'm easy. Like I said, monster movies.

What--Why is Godzilla a weak cop-out if he's actually my favorite? He's the King of the Monsters for a reason!! But ok, you want spot 2? Does the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man count? Nah, maybe Gamera. But I'll always be partial to Godzilla, ok, there's no shame in the classics.

As for my friend... his sense of humor is limited. [Newt cannot say it's non-existent. He knows that's a lie and a closely guarded secret.] And laughing at his life's work puts him on edge, so we won't go there, but I think he can admit that the movies are movies and he can deal with that, so as long as you don't put on something totally cheesy like the one with Bruce Willis and the asteroid, we're probably ok. He'd probably even go for some Miyazaki films or something, because we're both children of the 90s and even he can't deny there's a kid under there somewhere. Iron Giant might be awesome, if you've got it: kind of Giant Robot genre for all ages.

What's the price of admission for these movie nights going to be?
driftsintobuffetline: (well yeah you could do that)

Don't get me wrong, I like disaster movies just fine. Hermann, though, he'd probably hate it. I mean, I'm guessing, because it's not like movie-watching has been a thing the last few years.

And man, that sucks, but hey, at least we'll have movies to watch that we haven't seen to death, right? So long as they aren't crappy knock-offs and actually bring something to the table that's unique, I'm all for it. I'll see what I can dig up to watch that looks good. PG is probably safe?

You could do it BYOB style, but with soda and popcorn and candy? I think that's fair.

But you said you've been ported home. I thought I read that we didn't tend to remember when going home. So it's kind of unlikely for you to remember to carry your video library with you, if that's the case.
