[ Cisco sits back from turning the video feed on, his garage/workshop visible in the background, and goes back to fiddling with a project on his workbench while he talks. ]
So, what kind of movies do you guys like? Back home, I mean. I know stuff is weird here and some movies don't exist, and they have stuff some of us don't have back home, so if there's any good universe-local movies I'm missing out on that only exist here, I could use some recs, too. Bonus points if there's any really good alternate universe versions of stuff I'd know from home. Negative points if it's propaganda crap, because there's enough of that on TV as it is.
[ He props up the thing he's working on to get at the bottom of it, and it looks like a projector. Wonder what that could be for! ]

I needed a break from my actual project, so I bought it to play around with. So I'm trying to see if there's anything I can do to make it a better projector. I wanna rig up a big screen to watch movies on.

IF YOU WANT SOME GOOD MOVIES, SOME OF THE CLASSICS FROM HOME WOULD DETONATE YOUR THINK SPONGE INTO AN INFINITE ARRAY OF SOFT, MINISCULE AWE PARTICLES. THEY'RE JUST SO GOOD. BUT NOTHING LIKE THAT IS AVAILABLE HERE.
I'VE CAUGHT A FEW FILMS ON TELEVISION, THOUGH. THEY'RE OKAY. YOUR EARTH ROMCOMS ARE PRETTY GOOD.
he's sticking to VIDEO because it keeps his hands free for working

You're missing out, dude. I hope you're making up for it here, propaganda aside.

Obviously the only good shit is the classics, and I'm not talking that trash that everybody likes to pretend they've seen for pretentious douchebag bonus points, but the real down and dirty quality movies that endure. Transcend generations and all that shit. Back to the Future. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Groundhog Day. Terminator, but not anything after Rise of the Machines. [do these have a theme??]

And I'm getting the feeling we're from similar worlds, because those are all in my top ten. Except I didn't love Rise of the Machines as much as Judgement Day or The Terminator, but I mean, did anybody? Those two were Schwarzenegger at his peak.

...Depends on the documentary. I mean, I'd still take fiction over nonfiction any day, but I'm not above the occasional Netflix documentary binge.

[A slightly coy way of asking if they can keep watching films together? Yes, but he does miss those weekly nights of theirs. He's just betting on the chance that Cisco misses them too.]
no subject
Sure. Gogo suggested Operation Implausible, which sounds like the best name for the worst alternate universe version of Mission Impossible I can think of. Maybe not as good as our usual classics, but I'm down if you are?
Also, did you really just send me a voice message when I'm just out in the garage? Come on, I know you're home, I heard your car pull in.
[ He grins a little, hoping some endearing teasing will take the awkward out of the hesitance in his response. ]

But me, I'm easy. Like I said, monster movies.
no subject
Hey, excellent taste, though. Which monster's your favorite? For the record, picking Godzilla is a weak cop-out. And no, dude, totally, the remakes are all objectively terrible. They're not even bad enough to be funny.
And okay, your friend has good taste too, but high standards and scifi movies really just shouldn't go hand in hand. You've gotta be able to laugh the ridiculous off. I mean, I'm an engineer, I know how unscientific half the movies I like are, but you gotta suspend disbelief a little.

Though that's not exactly what you were asking for, were you? I really enjoyed Fatal Termination, which was a weird cross between the Terminator and Love Actually that somehow worked. Let Fate Decide was pretty good too, it's about a former government agent whose family was kidnapped, and she takes out everyone between her and them. That one's a little propaganda-y, since it's the Russians who take her family and all, but it's not too in your face about it.
And now if you enjoy awful B-movies, this place has them in spades. Red Riding Hood and Paul Bunyan go to Pluto, She was a teenaged Medusa, The Horrible Love of Santa Claus, Snow White versus Marie Curie, and I was a Supermodel for the KGB were my favorites.
no subject
Okay, I don't know how you'd combine Love Actually and The Terminator, but now I have to see it. I'm not huge on most non-scifi action movies, but I'll give Let Fate Decide a shot, too, why not.
Also those all sound amazing, oh my god.
