[The video feed pops on, showing Kaneda on his bed with...what looks to be the remains of something electronic. Something...pretty familiar. So familiar that it may match what you're holding in your hand to watch this said video. Wires are spilling out of it, some not even attached anymore, and the casing looks like it got bent like a spoon.]

So.

Anyone know how to fix a busted comm?

[A hand reaches up to rub the back of his neck as the other gingerly picks up the device between two fingers, wires dangling.]

I'd say technical difficulties is understating a biiiit~ but I guess it depends on your point of view.

[It's for a friend, okay.]

[All that's going to be visible are Isaac's legs as he's under a lifted machine at the moment, but he slides out on a cart when he hears footsteps.]

Hey, it's you.

Kaneda.

[He backs up a little, letting Isaac have some space to slide himself out. There's a plastic shopping bag looped around his elbow, swinging idly as his brows raise up.

You better be worth all that talk for the money he's shelling out, old man...]

[He nods as he rises, holding out a hand.] You made good time.

[And then he gestures over to a workbench along a side wall.] Alright, let's see it.

[Once Isaac's up, he lets the bag slide down to his hand and holds it up to him. Giving a soft smile and a chuckle.]

Careful, it's a murder scene in there!

I'll see about that. [He takes the bag and empties the contents on the workbench, frowning as he does.] Damn...I think I can fix it, but what did he do to it? Shoot it?

He got pissed at it is what happened.

[A finger goes to his head, tapping right by the temple.]

Psychic, can tear through that shit like paper.

[His eyebrows rose as the young man explained.]

...psychics can do that? Holy shit...

[Oh Isaac, they can do that and so much more. Kaneda's an expert.]

You're telling me.

...I'll fix it, and I'm not going to charge you more than I already quoted, but, uh...tell him to keep his kenesis away from his tablet from now on, alright?

[He shakes his head and moves to his toolbox to see if he had equipment with him.]

Yeah, I'll let you know how that goes.

[There's a little sarcastic flip to that tone as he leans against the bench, head tilted up.]

He's got listening issues, you know?

[Isaac shrugs. He really wouldn't mind fixing the thing again. It was money, after all.]

Or you could tell him it's coming out of his pocket next time.

[You may be in the niche business of fixing Tetsuo's comm in the future, Isaac.]

Hell yeah it is. At that price? He better pay next time.

[He pauses, a second, before pulling out some papers from his jacket.]

Hey, do these help?

[Unfolding them, he opens to show some...basic, if rough diagrams of the pieces Tetsuo took with some notes in Japanese off to the side.]

I tried playing puzzle a little bit before I called, you know.

Well, hopefully he'll have learned a lesson and there won't be a next time.

[Isaac takes the offered papers and spreads them out on the bench next to the disassembled tablet.]

Yeah, they should. [He doesn't speak or read Japanese, but he can follow well enough.]

Welllll~ he's full of surprises. And probably learned how boring it is without one.

[He tilts his head, watching Isaac work.]

I'll just need those back.

The notes? [Isaac nodded, distracted by his own notes he was making.] Yeah, sure. I'll get 'em back to you.

[Don't mind if he takes a moment to peek over Isaac's shoulder.]

...Oh right.

You want your money, right.

[Isaac shook his head at the question.]

No, not until I give you the finished product. I trust you.

[Not many adults say that to Kaneda, so there's a slight squint...before nodding.

Not that he doesn't consider HIMSELF trustworthy, it's just not usually what comes out of most people's mouths. He always kept his word once he gave it.]

So...you work here?

[Isaac doesn't mind. Sometimes it gets kind of lonely around the shop.]

Yeah, I do. I fix ships for a living.

[At that, Isaac chuckles.]

Back home, I was a systems engineer on a starship. That meant that whatever broke, it was my job to fix it. Whatever broke.

[Tons of people had been there, but never once had he thought to ask.]

Well...I was part of a crew of several hundred. Most big cruisers are like small cities, but...it's peaceful.
