AS THE WAR THAWS...

[When the imPorts open their comms, they will come face to face with an uncharacteristic image, ensuring that even imPorts who attempt to ignore broadcasts at large will see it. This is, after all, relevant to each and every imPort.

The image is nothing more than a black screen with white text superimposed on it: STATE OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY.

After a moment, the image will be quickly replaced by one of L. Chases, seated at her desk, hands folded in front of her. Her expression may be grim, but it is firm, and there is nothing but ferocity behind her stare.]

Attention all imPorts, [she starts off, voice crisp and clear.]

We are now in a state of national emergency. As of January 20th, the USSR has officially declared war on the United States, effectively endangering not only the people of America, but the world as a whole. In this time of need there is a strong chance we may have to call upon you, imPorts, to do your duty in protecting your own.

As a part of this declaration of war, the USSR has abducted approximately fifty imPorts, a number which may yet continue to grow. We do not yet know how this was accomplished, but you have our word that our intelligence is active and ready to uncover what form of technology could abduct you from afar.

We are currently in talks with foreign aid and the UN. Retaliation is a risky prospect, but I assure you, we will retaliate. That time draws near, and when it does, we will be asking for your assistance.

Until then, stay aware, alert, and cautious, imPorts. We cannot afford to lose any more of you, and more importantly, your fellows cannot afford it.

[And with that, her broadcast ends. There will be no replies.]

Of course it's worth it! But we need to understand what America will do in response, and what the situation is.

I'm not even sure I can trust America to tell us what the situation really is. They want us on their side no matter what, don't they? Even if I'm not okay with imPorts getting kidnapped, that doesn't mean I want to be part of anyone's nuclear business.

I mean, do you really think it's worth it more to wait?

Right now, even if we swear up and down that we're not affiliated with America and not acting on our orders, any action on our part to free our friends will be seen as American aggression.

Besides, they could be anywhere in Russia, or one of its allies. That's a a great deal of territory to search.

We're already in war. They want to mobilize us in a few days, they said. American aggression's gonna truck on no matter what happens.

I'm not interested in violence. I just want my friends and everyone else's back, and make sure something like this doesn't happen anymore. Yeah, Russia's freakin' huge, but we've got our own resources, don't we?

Well, those of us they can convince. If they expect imPorts to follow orders blindly, they're going to be disappointed, and probably have a revolt on their hands. But if they offer resources and let imPorts plan out their actions, they could get some support- and believe me, while we have some resources of our own, American help would be rather useful- we don't have vehicles that can transport large numbers of people, and I'm sure the Russians will be using any power nullifiers they have against us, so relying solely on powers for combat or transport is a bad idea.

And they seem to be attempting diplomacy, at least. Let's hope that works.

If they really expected the diplomacy stuff to work, why would they tell us that they're about to call us into action?

[ She sighs deeply through her nose. ] You've got a point about not having vehicles. And if it turns out our portals don't hold and the nullifiers take out whoever can make them, we're screwed. But it's not like I would want to go in empty-handed either.

[ She's already contacted Tony Stark about this. She's not expecting him to be a supplier, but when it comes to inventions, even large machines, Bubblegum knows a thing or two. ]

I just want to bring people back home. No squadrons, no battalions. I'm not siding with the Americans at all if that's what they're in this for.

Hoping something works doesn't preclude preparing for its failure. And if the Soviets have some way to brainwash imPorts... [Can you blame America for being worried?]

And if the imPorts are being guarded by Russian soldiers? I don't think they'd just let us waltz in and take them back- and even if we use nonlethal methods, even if we swear up and down we're not affiliated with America, we just want our friends back- they'll see it as American aggression.

I know! You mentioned that before.

We're in wartime now. The Americans already said they're going to attack, and they're going to use us. Even if most of us don't flip out guns blazing on the battlefield, they're gonna think all imPorts in are with America if just a few of us head out there. So it's like, we're all doomed to be American aggressors no matter what, aren't we? It's all just choosing whether to go in there now or later.
