[This communicator has been hacked.

Attached to the broadcast is the alias LUNATIC, a name some of you may have come to know by now, though most of you will not have. Not to worry, of course. There will be plenty of opportunity in the future...]

I have been watching.

[The speaker's voice has been manipulated to sound both artificial and faintly hollow.]

There are sinners in your midst. [You know their names, don't you? Perhaps some of them even spring to mind: Lucifer, The Manipulator, Annie Leonhart, Reiner Braun, Bertholdt Hoover...and so on. It's possible you even sympathize with some of them, though it's clear the speaker does not.] You answer their crimes with rewards of friendship, forgiveness...and freedom.

Foolishness.

[What follows is clearly exasperated, but spoken in such quiet tones that it forces listeners to be all the more attentive.]

As expected, heroes...your idea of justice...is weak.

But that is why I have come.

[The speaker pauses, perhaps for dramatic effect, for when he begins again there is a certain zealousness to his tone.]

My name...is Lunatic.

[Do not mistake him for a hero.]

I will strike down the evil that has arisen. For the wicked ones...there will be no escape. The time for them to atone for their atrocities is now.

They will hear the voice of Thanatos.

[Those listening closely may hear the crackling and hissing of flames in the background...it grows louder and louder before the communication is suddenly cut and the line goes dead.]

And what of soldiers?

The only life that "belongs" to anyone is their own. Are you holding the same standard to officers of the law? To self defense cases? To those who have killed on accident, like we hear about in the papers. "Three killed in drunk driving accident on Tuesday night: driver in critical condition at local area hospital."

Where do you draw your lines in the sand?

[Listen, Annie. He's sentenced a drooling old man to death before. He's about as unbiased as unbiased gets.]

Officers of the law who take a life unnecessarily

Those who carry self-defense too far when such violence is unwarranted

AND ANYONE WHO GETS BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A VEHICLE WHILE INTOXICATED

does not deserve to live.

Such people are the root of corruption and pain and despair in this world. Those who are reckless with the lives of others do not deserve to keep their own.

[ Wow. Wow Lunatic. A drooling old man? Anyone who drives while drunk? Teenagers are not going to survive this spree it's going to be terrible. ]

Ah. Yes. Instead of changing or tearing down the structure that allows for the corruption and pain and despair of this world, as you put it, to thrive as it does, you seek to change the one thing you can't: human nature.

No wonder you create a fiction of a black and white world to live in. The despair of the real one must have driven you insane.

[To be fair, that drooling old man had manipulated an entire city before destroying his own mind to try and escape justice... It's not like he was innocent, especially after having murdered several people to set in motion his future of lies.]

Humanity is predisposed to error, not evil.

[He believes goodness exists. Often in the hearts and minds of the naive, but it still exists.]

I agree. I don't think you do, if you can't see the hypocrisy in what you're saying you'll do now, and the breadth of who you threaten. All for one man's absolute.

What happens if you're incarcerated for your crimes, should you pursue them? What happens when you're denied the end you seek?

That's an interesting question.

[For which he has no answer.

To be left alone with his thoughts, his guilt, and everything in between...what does happen then?]

[ That's her suspicion, when he's been so adamant in the rest of what he says. He will atone, atonement is death - thre isn't room for what happens after. Not when death isn't the foregone conclusion. ]

One you aren't answering. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't have one... you're so sure of how this ends.

So consider this a statement of commitment. If you act on what you say here, and you aren't ported out, when you're incarcerated, I'll visit and ask that question again... after you've had some time to let the change in circumstances settle in. As someone who's working on change, I'd be curious to hear from someone set against it.

And if I have no answer for you then? Or refuse to provide you with one?

Will you wait outside my cell? Will you antagonize me? Reach for my neck through the bars and attempt to squeeze out the answers you so desperately seek and cannot seem to find on your own?

No... I don't think you know me very well at all. I'm a patient person. If you don't answer, that's your choice. I'll go home. Go on with what I have to do. I'll remember, sometimes, and I'll stop by, when I have the time. I'll ask again. Maybe you'll answer... maybe you'll be sent home again in the meantime, to pursue your own destruction in the world that made you.

All I can do is pose the question. The rest is up to you.

If incarceration is the fate that awaits me, then...when my time comes, so be it.

Though it may not immediately be the end I desire, the outcome will inevitably be the same.

Almost everyone dies, Lunatic. I'm beginning to believe it's what you do while you're living that matters more than the fact it will always come to an end.

Executions are also less common in the United States. Tends to shock people when you bring them up, so... you may be more or less disappointed on that front, too.

I have no regrets.

Can you say the same?

No. I would be less of a person in my own eyes if I could say otherwise.

I don't think you're as free from regret as you'd want us, and yourself, to believe.

Do you ask because you want to know, or because you want another easy opening to suggest "die already."

No tricks. I am listening.

I don't know how to quantify regret. I know what I feel... and what I can't let prevent me from moving forward. Regret alone does nothing for anyone. Regret, and working toward reparations in the world, in what ways I can... something like that feels right. Or more right than simply being alone and silent, mulling over my regret.

Have you given particular thought as to how you will work toward these reparations you speak of?

I've already started with what I know. Reduce collateral damage caused by the imPorts, in particular... aid there, defend what I can. I've been trained all my life to fight in some form or another. Defending myself... more important, the ability to defend and protect others. It's a beginning.

[Right now? Just answers. He isn't incapable of withholding scathing commentary, you know.]

I would think a person who felt true regret would seek a different kind of training. Perhaps something that would make them a more well-rounded citizen? And not only capable of perpetrating violence.
