[Jacob appears in the video wearing off-duty clothes: cargo pants and a tight black t-shirt, with an empty holster at his hip. Judging by the weapons and tactical gear he's surrounded by, he's making this post from Helix's armory. He's got a cloth in his hands, cleaning something that looks an awful lot like an old-fashioned ray gun, courtesy of the setting's retro-50s aesthetic.]

Hey, everyone. The year's off to a hell of a start, isn't it? For you new people out there, I'm Jacob Taylor. I work with RISE: that's a government team that helps keep order around here. I've got an announcement, and I've got a favour to ask.

The announcement is that the RISE Threat Roster is live. It's supposed to be a resource that will keep people informed of who's gunning for imPorts. I'm in charge of updating it, so if you know about any native super-criminals or terrorist groups that should be on there, let me know. No imPorts right now, though- that's a whole different issue.

[He finishes cleaning the ray gun- a reward from the government for recent heroism- and sets it down on the work table in front of him. Then he leans over the table with his palms down, resting his weight on his arms.]

That's the announcement. Here's the favour. I could use some help repairing my house in Maurtia Falls, and upgrading its security. We've had some uninvited guests lately. They made a serious mess. I'm looking to put the place back together, and to make damn sure nothing like this can happen again.

[His piece said, Jacob pushes off from the table and picks the ray gun back up, holstering it at his side.]

at the risk of being That Guy, i gotta ask: whats the deal with the job assignments for new imports? are they all jokes or is the universe just messing with me?

either way, im definitely in the market for something better. the government wasnt helpful enough to kidnap me with a resume or references on hand, so i guess youll just have to take my word for it, but here goes:

names Cisco Ramon, techspert extraordinaire. masters in engineering, second best coder on my earth. app writer, gear inventor, whatever you need. i can weld, i can solder, i can sew (leather, which let me tell you, is a bitch to work with). new to this earth so help a brother out and tell me where to look, or just offer me a job, thatd be great either way. shacked up in heropa but commutings easy with these porter things right?

so yeah. call me. been a while since i had to look for a new job, but im pretty sure my interview game is still on point.

I know it's a little behind -- it's been a long couple of weeks since the blackout, and I meant to address everyone earlier than this, but... you know how the Senate can be, particularly at the beginning of a new session. [ A half-grin. He knows it's bullshit, but... ]

Anyway, I wanted to ask most of you who were affected the most by the blackout -- what kind of government response would you have found the most useful?

Or to any crisis, really. This isn't the first, and it won't be the last, and I want to make sure we have a plan in place to properly utilize the resources we have to make sure we all get out of this safely. Even if it's something small, it'll help.

[ A pause, and then a slight gesture. ] Obviously, I'm working on a bill, so it would help me to field the people who seem the most impacted by these sorts of things, you know?

[ He reaches to shut it off, before -- ] Oh, and for those of you who are new, welcome to your new reality. If you need anything, you can always reach out. Just because I'm a Senator for Virginia doesn't mean I'm not available for imports as a whole. I'm the only voice we have in the Federal Government, you know?

[ the voice function clicks on to a soft, British voice. There's a bit of wonder in the tone of his voice: Victor's still not entirely sure how he'll be able to communicate with people via this device but hey, new technology! Time to mess with it. ]

This is perhaps a morbid question, but this network is meant for communication with fellow 'imPorts.' I'd rather ask those in my own state over my coworkers

Would anyone mind catching me up on the state of embalming? A combination of refrigeration of the body and formaldehyde injected throughout the bloodstream was common practice in my time. Still, since it's now a hundred years in my future, one would expect there to at least be a few changes.

[ THIS ISN'T A CREEPY QUESTION IN THE SLIGHTEST or at least, Victor's asking like it's not creepy at all.

ftr, the comm name IS registered to 'Victor Frankenstein'. Feel free to fourth-wall him on Mary Shelley or Boris Karloff, but no fourth-walling on Penny Dreadful specifically! ]

[It's a nice night out. After all that chaos, things seem more or less like they're at a peaceful lull. Let's fix that.]

[He cuts off with a pained sound. His breathing sounds strained, and there's a soft thump. Then he keeps growling into the comm.]

I should have smashed their precious little machine when I had the chance... And then every last one of them! Then take out this whole stupid country if I have to!

[Oh hey, it's Aerith. No one's seen her for a few months, huh?

Though she just turned on the video, she already looks for a moment like she forgot about it. She's staring off at something in the distance that the viewfinder can't see, if there's anything there, anyway.

A moment passes and she glances back at her phone.]

Kel isn't here anymore. But Tetsuo is. It hasn't been that long, right?

[Someone would be right if they noticed she's acting even weirder than normal.]

Can someone tell me what happened while I was gone?

[After one inappropriately long pause--]
