[02] Video; Backdated to Friday May 1st

[ Hey, everyone. It's Walt. You may remember this guy from such videos as drunk posting in his underwear. But in case you don't (and hopefully you don't), Walt is fully clothed this time. He still looks every bit as weary as his video debut, but at least he isn't drunk. That's a plus. ]

I apologize in advance for any inconvenience. It seems as though the Heropa pharmacy was caught up in whatever chaos erupted in the city and suffered some damages. We will be closed until further notice, but I will be doing my best to ensure prescriptions still get out to everyone who used my pharmacy to have them filled. We have a sister pharmacy that has temporarily taken on accounts here in Heropa. Though if it's more convenient for imPorts, I can have things forwarded to the other imPort cities.

Repairs have already begun, so I don't anticipate us being closed for over a couple weeks. If anyone wants to offer their assistance in helping rebuild the damaged sections, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I hope everyone has been well and continues to be well now that the worst of this is all behind us.

[Chilton took the paper, his eyes still on Walt. The sullen, erratic behavior had been interesting to observe, and Chilton indulged in a few mental notes. Walt greatly disliked the implication that he couldn't be trusted. It was an odd concern, given what Walt was, one might think shallow trust was par for the course. But Walt, every contrary, wasn't just a meth emperor; he was a family man first. He controlled people through paternal suggestion. He was accustomed to not only deference, but affection.

This was a tightrope balance.

Oh dear. Have I... Upset you?

Really?

[Chilton clenched the map in hand, his own temper beginning to boil. It was clear that Walt had pulled the curtain, and now the show was done. There was no coaxing the chemist out of his fouled mood. There was only room to exit.]

Really, you intend for me to walk myself back to civilization?

[Which was not, in fact, what Chilton intended to do. Once he was out of sight, he would use his Psychic Vehicular Driving ability to locate a parked car and summon it to him -- which granted might take half an hour to pull the car, speed limits depending, but that was better than three hours of hiking in full suit and tie to some semblance of relief.]

Fine. Fine, Heisenberg. But I'm not going to forget this.

[He sneered, casting one last glare, before letting himself out. Good thing they had a week to cool off.]

[Chilton felt the weight of Walt's hand, the meaning inherent to that grip. It stilled his step immediately. There was a certain power that Walt had the tendency to demonstrate, and Chilton detected a whiff of dissociation in the exhibition. The man who commanded him to stay, the individual who gripped him with a Napoleonic fist -- that wasn't merely Walter White, former teacher. That was Heisenberg. That was an apex predator.

Even now, with his emotional confession, even that exuded an air of demand. Even as Walt employed a pathos-based argument, Chilton could see the strength behind it.

It's all right, Walter. [Chilton turned to face his patient, his voice already lubricated with the cucumbered sooth of a psychiatric inflection. This was his professional voice, intended to be auditory medication.] I'm glad you've discussed your intent, I think all we had was a little miscommunication.

[Chilton minimized the conflict with tone, with word choice.]

I'm not about to leave, not now.

[But not because Chilton found Walt's worded plea compelling; it was because beneath that request, Chilton could see the danger lurking.]

[It was cutting, how Walt phrased it. You can stay a little longer, which carved the illusion of choice out from cloistered bone. Free will dangled in front of him, as if Chilton wasn't embroiled in a collection of control compulsions. As if Chilton had the ability to easily leave, now that Walt had torn up the map.

The psychiatrist stared at Walt, briefly, before recovering his composure and offering a slight smile.
]

Guess I'll be having some tea, after all.

[He was to remain here until Walt decreed otherwise. Later, with the breadth of hours between then and now, Chilton would reflect upon this session with a critically analytical eye -- in the log run, this was ideal behavior exhibited from Walt, all according to the agenda. But the more immediate run?

In the short run, Chilton had to play by the chemist's rules.
