So...The days are short, the air is cold (except in Heropa), and all of us are struggling with lingering embarrassment from all those mis-sent texts. So, to give us all a bit of cheer, and in recognition of all the holidays we've constructed to help us deal with winter, I thought we all could give one another a bit of love.
So! How does this work, then? Well -

So. It's winter, which means it's the holiday season where you circulate those online shopping "buy me these things" lists, spend too long in retail shopping lines--and realize you honestly don't know what to buy people who you know REALLY well.

Shopping for: Male. Mid-Thirties. NERD. Likes space and math and robots. Dresses like an academic dork (stuffy librarian). Significant enough other that a spending limit does not exist by default. Nor is a gift objectionable due to being "too personal" or "too significant." Does not need a new watch, nor a new winter jacket. Rarely wears ties. Does not wear jewelry.

Not an alteration to a pre-existing one, but something totally different - like going from being the ultimate human calculator to being able to bite down on frozen desserts without ever getting an ice headache.

So, I'm taking a class in journalistic methods at the local community college - it's a brilliant class, too, I'm having an excellent time, school really gets much more worthwhile when you get to the college level, doesn't it - and we've been given an assignment to conduct interviews. I know that some of you are willing and happy to help me out and submit to being interviewed. [ Her grin is confident. ] It's nothing too personal, I promise - just some stuff on your attitude towards the locals here, that sort of thing. It'll be fun.

I don't think there aren't very many of us here who have medical training, or at least the kind that's up to date and useful as an emergency responder. Paramedic work isn't the same kind of thing I'm used to doing in the ER, for example.

akitoKnowing what's different doesn't make things any less weird, but it also makes it kind of interesting. For those of you who aren't familiar with me, my name is Robert Callaghan. I, ah, had been working on a project for a while that I hadn't told many people about, mainly because I wasn't sure it'd work and thought it was better to keep it quiet. Even so, a lot of you felt the effects of it a couple months ago. As far as I can tell, it misfired...badly, altering what people thought was their present. I want to emphasize what happened was an accident, but...[he shakes his head, grimacing a bit]...that doesn't change the fact that it still happened, and it affected too many people, did too many things. It was supposed to - years from now, when we'd had time to test it safely and were sure it'd work - save a life. Maybe a few of them, but...at this point, it's been dissembled. It's pretty clear that the risk of a repeat of what happened...

My memory about that time's still a bit fuzzy, but I remember enough that I've spent since then until now trying to...clean up certain things. Still, this is...long overdue.

So essentially what I'm asking is, is it possible to voluntarily arrange for import abilities to be suppressed? Are there any non-permanent options? What sort of side-effects could one expect from undergoing such a process?
